Speaking of the big dogs:
"Despite excellent rushing performances in the last four weeks, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said he's still recovering from offseason knee surgery. 'Last week in Seattle, on one run, I felt scar tissue break up around my patella tendon on one of my cuts,' Peterson said. 'That's part of the recovery, that scar tissue breaking.' Peterson thinks he'll continue to get better at the tail end of the season."

I value the spectacle more than the tradecraft...because I want to see the person who is best at the craft display their dominance/ability, rather than being lumped together with a bunch of others by rules, equipment, venues, etc, designed to create parity?
I think you read/interpreted my post 180* backwards.

First of all, I didn't mean the spectacle/tradecraft comment as an insult.
Majority, if not all, of intermittent race watchers fit that mold.
Second, if you're making your argument on the best winning through their ability instead of "being lumped together with a bunch of others by rules, equipment, venues, etc, designed to create parity" and using NASCAR as your point of argument, you clearly know very little bout NASCAR.
Stock car racing in its upper tiers is the holy grail of parity.
Uh, I think I did.
In fact, I think I did it again in this post.
In which case: my bad.

Popular racing series always have their cycles. Fans demand closer racing and the sanctioning bodies change the rules and regulations to hell and back until the sport doesn't even resemble itself anymore. Fans complain again. Then another set of rules and regulations are made to change things back to the way they were. Then 10 years later fans complain again, and start the whole cycle over. Repeat forever.
NASCAR is in that "superficial racing" cycle. Intelligent racing fans (people not tuning in for a demolition derby) ARE getting restless and it's been starting to show this season. I wager by the next 2 seasons, there are going to be some serious changes to things like these stupid debris cautions, green-white checkered flags, fuel strategy dominating the actual racing, etc. etc.
Also, as long as drivers like this exist who voice the BS the bosses and the fans push for, NASCAR will be okay. It just won't be everybody's cup of tea.

Racing
I've watched pretty much every form of auto racing, and I would say that none of them are "easy", and I wouldn't even say that one type has better drivers than another.
While it's true that an open wheel guy may not do well in a stock car, or vice versa, this is probably because at the top of the game the guys who have a particular skill set will rise to the top of that type of racing, not because one is inherently more skilled. In F1, that may be the guy with the fastest reaction times. In NASCAR it might be the guy who best reads traffic or who has the best feel for staying balanced on the edge. For WRC it may be the guy with the best pure car control skills. That kind of thing.
F1's has more technology, NASCAR has more drama, WRC is just plain insane. They all have their thing.☠ By reading this post, you have agreed to my negative reputation terms of service.

I enjoyed the first part.
The part around 3 minutes with the interview of him and Earnhardt Jr, I've seen before. I liked how they reacted negatively to the media all concerned that there wasn't a single wreck.
edit: Love his interview around 4:30.
"So Tony, what's the game plan for today?"
"Uhh... finish 18th or better. Same thing you guys have known all week."
"Is there any pressure?"
"What's the pressure? We're going to do the same thing we do every week, try to win. The pressure is all of you guys standing around asking us the same questions for 8 weeks. It's annoying."-

I have a question. In those F1 and NASCAR races, do the drivers use the brakes or are they just flooring it the entire way and using good steering techniques? I find that when I am driving on the road, I have to use the brakes to slow down.

Exactly. Schumacher dominating for 5 years in a row isn't what the fans wanted to see, nor F1 bosses, so rule changes to stop Ferrari and Schumacher were inevitable. It worked.
Applies to every sport. When Pete Sampras was winning Wimbledon every year, fans were bored. They were tired of aces and short rallies. So they slowed it down. Now it's gone too far the other way and it sucks.

How close do you think Big Ben came from dying on Monday night? Srs. He's been diagnosed with a separated rib that could've pressed against his aorta.
