At approximately 23:23 EST, with 69 electoral votes, I'd like to elect my bed to receive my naked body as its President for the next 6-8 hours.
Here's to another 4 years of ranting and raving in this thread about whatever happens to grace the national/global consciousness at the time.
Good night.

Well it's true that China makes more of a difference in the grand scheme of things and our economy has been relatively insulated from the global economic downturn so far but that could quickly change.
Anyway, taking a step back, a declining US economy will have ramifications militarily and the US is one of our strongest allies. Do we really want an aging superpower declining further to a point where more countries say GFY to the US and continue pursuing their nuke programs, sanctions become less effective at the bargaining table, and so on.

When you phrase it that way, no, of course not. But that isn't really the issue.
Nobody has to come and "take" anything in order to make it more difficult for you to acquire that which you do not already have.
The people (reasonably) worried about this aren't worried that the government is going to show up and demand their guns. They are worried about this, that, or the other form of governmental power/influence making future acquisition of various items (firearms, magazines, ammo, etc) more difficult or expensive, if not not outright illegal (like the democrats did from 1994-2004). Thus if you want it, it is better to already have it than to plan to purchase it in the future.
Other people are simply concerned with getting the one or two times they want before the "panic buying" sets in now that Hussein (that's what they call him) is back.
Myself, I got an AR15 (my first/only centerfire, semi auto, mag fed rifle) this summer as well as the magazines, spare parts, accessories, and ammunition required to support it. (and some training). And I have another 1,000 rounds of ammo for it on the way now (shipped a day ago)
Edit: I don't think anything significant will pass. A lot of people worry about another "assault weapons ban". I think that's a no-go because, as I said earlier, gun control is probably political suicide right now, at the national level. But I remember the complete lack of availability, and jacked up prices to come along with the huge demand/limited supply, 4 years ago. I basically bought nothing for 18 months after the election last time. Thankfully I didn't need to in order to continue as usual. I believe I am prepared to do so again. I'd much rather have, right now, on hand, whatever is necessary to continue life as usual (including shooting/training/etc) until the panic ends and things normalize again.
Also, the end of the world is next month.
Also also, our fiscal/financial policies are so fukking retarded, things like ammo are probably set to continue rising in price just based on that.Last edited by Farley1324; 11-06-2012 at 09:32 PM.

Lol
Do you know who stirs that sh*t up? The NRA and gun manufacturers.
Before he was elected in '08, it was "Obama's gonna ban guns!", and there was a huge rush. After four years of pretty much taking no action on the subject, it's "If Obama gets reelected and becomes a lame duck, he's really gonna ban guns!"
Sellers have said he's the best ad they've ever had.
Also, Romney's stance on guns as governer of Mass. wasn't exactly favorable to the gun crowd, either. Here Lies the Rant

Yes, the NRA stirs that up.
But there is a legitimate concern considering what current politicians have recently said, what their records/history are, and what they have done in the not so distant past.
Now, every time this comes up on the gun forums I argue that nothing significant will be done. If you'll notice I just said that above. I said the same thing 4 years ago. That's why I held off on buying a rifle, despite being told by a lot of people that I might not be able to now.
I'm less-confident than I was 4 years ago, though. Just a little bit less confident.
I have engaged the "he's gonna ban stuff!" people on gun forums and even suggested friendly wagers using magazines (the likes of which were banned for purchase with the 1994 AWB) exchanging hands based on who was right (new legislation/etc, I give them mags...none, they give me mags)...and nobody has taken me up on the offer yet.
So I'm not going to support much, if any, of the NRA crap...but I know better than to completely dismiss the possibility that the anti-gun and anti-self defense aspects of some of the more "out-there" democrats will somehow get snuck through

Yeah, I wouldn't completely dismiss it either. I just doubt much will happen that would really piss off youse guise.
Oh, and by "mags", do you mean "clips"?Here Lies the Rant

Sorry, but I also knew.
I think perhaps you did this before and Chaz posted that image, or one just like it.
BTW: I did buy clips this summer, and will possibly buy more clips before long. I do have an M1 Garand (which, uh, is in my avatar), which is the exception to the rule.
