It was depressing . I was a gymnast in high school, and I could do them all freakin' day long. I hadn't tried one in a long time and was wanting to do a good finisher last night to cap off the shoulders. Figured I'd give them a whirl. Got about 4 on first try . . . then went rapidly downhill with some pretty ugly/hilarious form and effort.
Think this may have to be my personal challenge to myself to get back on board with these more regularly . . . albeit when I'm a lot more fresh. LOL.

I (generally) don't care how people dress at the gym as long as they are working out... BUT, a sports bra can be distracting... Just saying.

Very cool! That sounds like a great challenge. I actually did gymnastics through elementary/jr. high...got to go to a couple meets...LOVED it! One of my earliest memories is wanting to be Mary Lou Retton lol. So, what was your best event?

I think it is a personal preference. I frequently run outside in just a sports bra and shorts, but wouldn't feel comfortable wearing one in the gym.

I specialized in pommel horse and parallel bars . . . but also did some rings and high bar (generally I was in the rotation for meets as a pommel horse and p-bar specialist and then our all-arounders filled the other slots). I couldn't tumble worth a crap, so my coach pretty much told me to not even practice it and the vault, LOL. Parallel bars was my favorite one, but pommel horse was my best apparatus as far as scoring and consistency. Took forever to learn how to do the double-leg circles.
That was a lot of years and quite a few pounds ago. I was around 150 lbs in HS during the season.
EDIT: Forgot to ask what YOUR favorite event was.

Rings and pommel horse are my two favorite men's events to watch. But, pommel horse is so nerve-wracking...I think I hold my breath until the dismount, ha!
Floor was my favorite event to compete in...but, was best at balance beam. But, again...so nerve-wracking!

Yeah, the margin for error on pommel horse is really small--a fraction of an inch can throw you completely off the thing. I scored a 2.5 once on a pommel horse routine (out of 10 back then) . . . my first meet and I hadn't been in gymnastics very long as that point. So my difficulty level was really low to start with and I kept falling off. I think they were generous with the 2.5 because they felt sorry for me. Oh the shame.

My wife does all the time. She does not parade around that way, just during the more intense parts of her workout, cardio, etc.
I do not have a problem with it, but I am sure some men do.
If I asked her not to go in just a sports bra, she would respect that request and go spend money on good workout tank tops or other gear that she needed. Same goes for me. If she asks, I try to make it work if it is a reasonable request.

I can't think of any that I know of, but anything is possible.
Happens all the time at the gyms I go to . . . doesn't seem out of place there or a big deal from what I can see.

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it personally in my gym. Some women do though. For the ones that are clearly there to seriously work out, it looks fine. For the one that are there for other reasons... well... that would likely be obvious regardless of attire choice

re: sports bras=I'm torn, really. I get the running outside when it's a gajillion degrees out (I don't do it but I get it). I don't get it, really, in a public gym. Why is a wicking tank not "an option"? I guess I still consider a sports bra an undergarment and I don't walk around in my undies
But I also don't agree that just because it has a built-in bra means you shouldn't wear a bra anyway. As needed of course. Some are just more blessed than others.
I have no idea if I'm making any sense...The Terrorists are running rampant around this house.

There's only one girl in my gym that does it. I would, maybe, if I had abs. Then again, I feel like the biggest hoochie in there with my short shorts and tank top. I don't know if I'd actually have the courage to go in with just a sports bra. Maybe I could do a sports bra and capris. I think really, it depends on the place and how dressed up most other women are.

And this is probably why I don't have abs. My husband is gone right now too. I was determined to go buy ranch dressing last night and cheat with a salad (WHAT?) after work. Turns out I didn't have any money on me (that's what I get for being too lazy to carry my purse anywhere and always putting my money in my pockets and then forgetting...)
But I have money tonight.
