WNBF Natural Pro Bodybuilder Sean Campbell logs diet and supplementation w/ CELLUCOR

For those that don't know me from the contest prep section of this forum, my name is Sean Campbell. I am a USBF and WNBF professional natural bodybuilder. I am a family man, teacher and dedicated natural bodybuilder who is always pressing forward to balance love for the sport with daily life, responsibilities and a sense of normalcy. Join with me as I build my best physique ever in the anticipation of the 2014 bodybuilding season. In this log I will blog about my dieting philosophy and supplementation.

What I like about Cellucor is that they really encourage me to be HONEST about their products. No hype and bullsh=t. Just my plain ole' opinion. Im also planning on a posting a lot of pictures of my day to day meals, protein concoctions, and general food porn for your viewing pleasure. I am also happy to answer questions on diet, training, supps, bodybuilding lifestyle, etc. I love this sport and truly enjoy talking about it so ask away. Im also open to suggestions, criticisms, critique, etc. I wish i knew all there is to know about bodybuilding, but I dont.....so im not only here to teach but to learn.

    .
So lets get to it. I got a nice box o' goodies from Mike at Cellucor.....BCAA's, Creatine, CLA, etc. Being the whey protein connoisseur that i am I was most excited to try out their Super Sport Isolate. First thing I checked out was the macro breakdown. Damn sexy = 1 scoop (36g) is 30g of protein (5g more than most), 4g of carbs and a half gram of fat. I tried the chocolate straight up with water so I could get a real sense of flavor....now, its Chocolate....so if im being totally honest, i am not doing handstands. Not a lot of excitement with just chocolate but what I WILL say is that is its damn good chocolate. IMOP, its right up there with optimum and some of the other top tasting proteins. It mixed up super nicely just as a good isolate should and tasted real smooth. This is a legit isolate too...no fillers and a whopping 10g of BCAAs/glutamine per scoop. The research shows that this is what we should be paying for - BCAAs....specifically leucine. Hitting that threshold for a leucine spike in order to trigger muscle protein synthesis is key for adding quality meat to your frame so this protein is a home run in that department.

Next I tried the vanilla. Im kinda a vanilla guy because I really dont make protein shakes too often and when i do I make them with fruit. Im a big sludge guy.....junk bowls....mixing sludge with all kinds of goodies. I mix with greek yogurt and my fav... (as with most 3DMJ athletes)...THE CAKE. So vanilla is my main stay. For a trial run I mixed up some sludge just to taste. It was good. As far as quality of taste, the chocolate is better. So if you are a chocolate guy, thats the way to go. Me, being a vanilla guy, I didnt think it was quite the home run as the chocolate but still plenty good for me to call it an 8 out of 10 on taste. SO after I mixed up the sludge I thinned it out a bit and added one of my favorite cereals - vanilla granola....Trader Joes FTW. This combo was friggin awesome. And IMOP, one of the best way to get your protein. I cant wait to try this stuff out in a protein cake. Stay tuned and ill report on how that goes.

this... i have a hard time pulling the trigger on such pricey supplements, even if it is quality (poor PhD student FTL). that being said, i MAY have a grant coming through soon, so we'll see!

I tried Cor Performance Beta-BCAA's yesterday for my upper body workout. I have tried a lot of BCAA products and some of my favs were xtend and purple wrath. I think Cor Performance was right in line with some of the best ive tried. The watermelon flavor was really good....in fact, i mixed some up to have with my lunch today lol. I got the standard beta alanine tingles.....which is pretty cool for an intra workout bcaa product. And probably even cooler is the addition of the HICA. Its been a while since I looked into HICA, but I read a bit about it when I tried out Gasparis HICA. I find the concept interesting.....we all know Leucine is the BCAA most responsible for triggering muscle protein synthesis. Well, as I understand HICA, it is a metabolite of leucine and studies show that it is equally as effective if not MORE effective in triggering muscle protein synthesis. I think the research is in an early stage, but im excited to be running it.

HICA looks really good on paper, and so far the feedback on reducing DOMS has been pretty solid. I think guys like you who have it lined up, and have good bio-feedback will be the determining factor for its real world potency. I feel like its a winner though. I have studied heavily on the metabolism of said aminos, and I am not even the formulator

Lets not forget another metabolite of leucine as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta-Hy...ylbutyric_acid - HICA seems more price efficient though at the moment, but not as much research like you suggested. Time and research will tell though!!

Well, were gonna see if it makes any diff with DOMS tomorrow after todays leg session! Seriously loving the new line though Mike. The BCAA supp is really good. I was an xtend fan prior to this.....and dont get me wrong....I still love me some blue raz xtend. But IMOP, this is a better tasting watermelon and a better profile. Win win.

Its now OFFICIAL. Cellucor Super Sport makes for one flipping awesome sludge cake. Im seriously trying not to sound like some kind of smoke blowing snake oil salesman. Because i really dont want to. But this "IS" the best chocolate cake ive ever made. From consistency to taste....serious winner. Im thinking that the vanilla probably wont compete with taste compared to my Denovo Cake Batter Isolate, but we will see soon enough.

For those that dont know, this cake is made in about 3 minutes flat using pancake mix, cellucor ss protein, a touch of sweetener and of course, FF cool whip on top. The most anabolic cake you'll ever eat. lol.

JP, the taste on the Cellucor BCAA is great. Its stronger than the taste of xtend. If im giving it an honest assessment, then I would love to see a blue raz flavor by cellucor because if I am judging by pure taste, I think i still like blue raz xtend. But watermelon vs watermelon....cellucor FTW. Xtend has kind of a more watery fainter taste. Cellucor is very pronounced. But as far as profiles go, cellucor has the beta AND the HICA....and the price is pretty competitive if you go 30 serv container. Unfortunately they dont have the 90 serving yet.

Ive also got lemon lime and one other (cant remember at the moment) that I need to try so ill post up when I try them out.

This trader joes pancake mix is da bidness. If you make it as per instructions, its not exactly bodybuilder "macro friendly" but its soooo good. I mixed up a regular batch and then added vanilla super sport to a batch. I wouldnt say the vanilla protein added anything for taste, but added a lot of volume to the small amount of batter. Definitely more bang for the caloric buck. The consistency of these pancakes is so much better than some of the homemade pumpkin pancakes i have made in the past.....not so "wet"....a lot more fluffy.

Thanks man. Hit a deload on shoulder press today....seems that last grinder keeps going up and up as long as I stay consistent with it. Let me know how you like the bcaas. I'll be sure to pass along the feedback. And thanks for the support!

After my shoulder deload, I did some rolling/stretching and mobility work for my glutes and hams. I have been struggling lately with some intense muscle tightness in my posterior chain. Just off the charts stiff....lots of knots etc. After my prehab/rehab work I went home and got a nice post workout meal in.....This is vanilla super sport, honey nut cheerios, banana and R3. R3 is an anti-inflammatory, immune support and antioxidant. If anyone needs this.....ITS ME. Ive taken the R3 in.....and then I sat on a heating pad (for much of my night) to deliver the nutrient right where i need them. the past with good results so I am hoping some more consistent use post workout with some heat therapy and massage might help to reduce this epic tightness. The way I felt this morning is promising. I am definitely a touch better.

Thanks man....wish I was this lean all the time, but im wearing a nice "layer" now. I get shredded for competition and then put some weight back on. I am not very comfortable (hormonally) in that condition. But I have every intention of laughing at these pics in 2014 when i get back into condition again.

Another week with Cellucor and im still really enjoying the supplements. Ive been messing with different times to supplement the R3. I think i have settled on post workout and bedtime. Ive almost gone through two bags of the Super Sport. Im still really liking it. Its been a breakfast staple for a while. I was having issues when I mixed it with my oats when they were hot. The protein likes to clump a bit when i mix them straight in with piping hot oats, but thats pretty normal. I either let them cool a touch or more recently started pre mixing it with a bit of water and pouring it over dryish oats....kind of like most people do with milk........and im really liking that in the AM. Might not look super appetizing but its is GOOD. I mix a tsp of peanut butter in with the oats too and that choco-pb combo is great. The chocolate makes the best microwave cake too. Ive also been mixing the vanilla in along with the pumkin vanilla pancakes. MONEY! Got a real arsenal of protein creations going...I think creativity with meals is important. Its easy to get burned out on the same food sources over and over again.

I tried the fruit punch BCAA's and although not as tasty as the watermelon....still REALLY good. And I cant say enough about the profile on the COR-BCAAs. I absolutely love it. Ive been doing a scoop either with my workout or with my post w/o meal to get that Leucine spiked nicely. Lots of controversy surrounding the efficacy of BCAA's but as far as im concerned, if you arent scraping the bottom of the checking account to pay your supplement bill, BCAA's are a great addition, especially as "insurance" when cutting. It might only be a couple percent difference but if you are a competitive athlete, it might only be 2% that separates you from the next best guy.

great log bro! Always enjoy your feedback. A lot of people have had success cooking with our SuperSport protein. Hopefully, we will have a few recipe's for people with both Super Sport, and our new COR-Performance protein. The protein game does get old, but once you can add it to meals, drinks, desserts, etc.... It can get one through that feeling of "NO MORE PROTEIN POWDER!! "

There are going to be a variety of COR protein flavors to melt taste buds appropriately. I'm thinking blending it with the Super Sport for cooking could be bonus as well.

Oh yea....I know Bob. Hes got some GREAT recipes. I always get hungry when I look at his threads...lol. And yes, the SuperSport does mix up nicely into a "Drizzle" sauce....or a thin sludge. Actually one of the things I like about the protein is that you can get some varying consistencies with it.

This was a really good breakfast combo (can you tell I eat a lot of oats?). This is pretty dry oatmeal miixed with a tsp of peanut butter, some splenda and drizzled with vanilla protein. I think I like this better than the choco-pb combo.

Post workout yesterday: Chocolate Super Sport Protein Cake with Vanilla drizzle and FF cool whip.

I started a mini cut today. 3 weeks....just to get the chub under control. Hopefully ill drop about at least 4 lbs of fat plus the water. Just in time to put it all back on again for the holidays. The three week mini will give me a chance to log Cellucors new CLK supplement. It contains CLK, rasberry ketones, carnitine and 7Keto. Typically, I would not use a fat burner until I am well below my set point, but Mike sent it out to me to try.....so I might as well, right?

The SS makes the best protein cakes because of WPI/WPH.. blends do very well in baking and hence why it rocks.

Where was my invitation to this party?
