    3 Rep Strength Training

Right before I got out of the Army my Sergeant showed me a work out plan that you do sets of 3 reps and go about 85-90% of max weight per set with about 1-2 minutes of rest between sets. Would this really add bulk? I've noticed a 7lb gain in 2 months but now I eat healthy and properly. I'm wondering if this will add a lot of mass over time or will it just add strength?

You will gain mass. You will get size but not as much as if you did a pure hypertrophy program. Mass = volume x density

Strength training increases muscle density rather then puffing up your muscle volume.

If you really want to build muscle it is ideal to lay the foundation through strength training for a year or so. This is the base for any beginner routine like starting strength or 5x5.

Depends on your muscle type and in particular, how much volume you are doing. Why not cover all bases and add a couple of 10 rep back off sets?
