Should I do bent over rows or Yates rows?

I read that you could lift heavier with Yates so I'm more attracted to them since I can only bench 145, squat 200, and Overhead press 95 all 1RM.
However, reading StrongLifts 5x5, it seems Bent over rows would be better in the long run. What do you guys suggest?

Yates rows are designed to be more of a lat movement than a total upper back builder like the bent over row (this is a gross over generalization, both hit the lats and upper back). Stick to one, gain strength, and you'll be set.

As far as Stronglifts goes, its a good site but very biased against the bodybuilding community, like everything in life, take it with a grain of salt.

Stop worrying about bigger numbers, and leave your ego at the door. Try each of the exercises, and pick whichever one you feel most comfortable with.

I prefer Pendlay rows over any other barbell row movement. Don't pick an exercise just because you can move more weight with it.

9/10 those moving a lot of weight with that Yates row, use some horrible form and a lot of body english.

I settled on Pendlay Rows after trying out bent over rows as well since I wanted some explosive movements in my routine

Also I find form easier to maintain on Pendlay Rows, on bent over rows I would tend to go into a more upright position on the last 2-3 reps - taking focus away from the back

Bent-Over Rows were awesome for me. Really helped develop my back. I suggest strict form if you're doing either or, though. Straps if you want to go heavy...

Also, don't be afraid to try T-Bar Rows. MONSTER exercise... will really add mass.
