A glass of white wine is generally 5 oz. and has about 120 cals. A beer is generally 12 oz and has around 155 cals. You can see oz for oz beer isn't that bad. Bulking, cutting or whatever, whenever you drink alcohol you're putting useless cals in your body. At the end of a bulk if you added and extra 5 lbs from drinking it will be strictly fat that has to be dieted off. 3 to 5 weeks extra time involved.
No matter what, you just have to understand that every useless cal you consume is affecting you in a negative manner. I'd rather drink a little and deal with the repercussions. Ya gotta live a little. If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

I'd imagine vodka to be the "cleanest", but I bet the differences are negligable between hard alcohols... (whiskey, tequila, vodka, etc)
I drink every day and sometimes will kill a whole 750 ml bottle of wiskey, or close to it, through the afternoon and evening. And look at my avi...hard alcohol barely effects my gains, since i'm such a hard gainer.
I've heard that beer tends to produce much more estrogen and lead to that "beer gut" far more than hard alcohols.. I guess it's all of the carbs and stuff that's in it.Misc jawbrah appreciation crew

I've never been much of a hard liquor drinker. My drink of choice is beer. I generally stick to light beer. Occasionally, i will buy a 6 pack of something good, like a quality craft beer, but drinking beer doesn't necessarily lead to a "beer gut". I think those with your typical beer gut don't exercise moderation, and more than likely tend to mindlessly eat while drinking, causing the gut.
Obviously, your going to be better off avoiding the empty calories altogether, but in my opinion, you gotta live a little, and if you like to drink, youshould from time to time.
If you're drinking to intoxication every day, you'll probably see a noticeable change in progress, but having a few on the weekend isn't going to make or break your success.

Red wines seem to be the 'favorite' among the most health conscious.
I drink 36-54 beers in a weekend (mich ultra). It's excessive, but my diet is clean otherwise. I also 'trade' those calories on the weekend and usually skip most of my other carbs.
I have dropped 20lbs in 8 weeks with my 7th week being a vacation and eating a lot. The last week I lost 5lbs in 6 days.
In the beginning I wasn't as intense since I just had surgery 6/13, but not I am ramping up and the weight is coming off faster.Re-becoming monster.

drink in moderation, bottom line. some people are saying that the hard liquor drinking hasn't affected their gains (based on their performance or pictures, etc.) but it does put extra stress on the liver, causing your digestive system to less effective. although you still feel the same, in reality you are not digesting your food as well. you can always counter this by taking in more minerals, vitamins, etc from veggies. it doesn't hurt to enjoy yourself, just make sure you are doing the necessary steps to avoid moving backward instead of forward.
