    Fat Gripz ?

Does anyone else have a pair of Fat Gripz and dislike them? I'm just trying to figure out the cons to them...

Any alternatives or things you'd fix?

I have a pair. I don't dislike them, but I do find it distracting that my fingertips sometimes slide down into the seams while I am using them when my grip starts to slip. I feel like I am going to drop the bar and be left holding the Fat Gripz....

If I had it to do over, I might forego the Fat Gripz and make a fat bar instead. That is just my opinion, and for every one of me, there are probably 3 or 4 guys who love them.

Fat Gripz do have that about to slip out feel but I imagine a smooth fat bar would also? Never used one. I'm short on space so fat gripz are a good compromise. I'll probably wrap them in gauss tape to get a better grip. They leave a rubbery smell on hands anyway, 6 months after I bought em. The manufacturer should do some knurling/grip pattern on the rubber instead of their logo. Gripforce has a grip pattern.

I have a pair and the only con I've found with them is they are a bit slippery. But I get around this by using chalk.

Fat Gripz work best on bars that are around 28mm in diameter. Go much above that and the gap gets kind of large. If you use them on a 25.4mm (one inch) bar, there's no gap, but they tend to slide around.

Here's a photo of Fat Gripz on a 31.75mm (1.25") Ironmaster Dumbbell Handle. The gap is roughly 11/16".

    More photos here.

I do keep the seam facing up, but the grips always seem to rotate around a bit. That probably means I should work a little harder at squeezing more tightly!

Hmm. If the slides around, I'd guess it's a one inch (25.4mm) bar. The IM dumbbell handles are an inch and a quarter in diameter. Fat Gripz don't slide at all on the DB handles - in fact, the slit ends up being really wide.

I bought a set to use for my heaviest bench sets, so the bar doesn't crush the muscles in my hands. Works great vs padded gloves. Nobody else here seems to have this problem, so i guess I have girly hands?

nah it slides some mainly due to the fact the bar spins and its a lil hard centering it to keep the safeties from smacking the guide bar. plus that and the heavy weights on the bar don't really help . but yeah i'll take a pic later today. the gap is the same as your photo of the dumbbells.

I bought a pair to do fat bar deadlifts but with my 32mm barbell and my tiny hands I find them just too big to use.

No one finds it a bit slippery when your palms are heavily sweaty?

I thought it got a little loose over time with a thin bar.

I've had mine a few months and used them on my IM handles a handful of times. I find the gap annoying, and the lack of grip (combination of sweaty hands and no knurling pattern) bothersome. If I could go back I'd have rather just bought the IM Fat grips.

I haven't tried them, but I don't think they're dense enough. Fat Gripz are very dense with almost no squish at all. One inch (inner diameter) vinyl tubing might work, but won't be as thick as Fat Gripz.

I've had mine for a little over a month now and have seen great results. Grip has definitely improved in deadlifting but the main thing was an increase in the amount of weight I could curl. Went from curling working sets using 45 lb dumbbells to 55 lb dumbbells in just 1 month. Check out my review here: http://www.shutupandtrain.com/featur...iew-fat-gripz/
Lifts as of November 2013. 1 month left of bulking before cut begins January 13,2014
Bench Press - 350 lbs (past) - 375 lbs (present)
    Squat - 405 lbs (past) - 425 lbs (present)
    Deadlift - 500 lbs (past) - 525 lbs (present)

I have them an I like them. They are good to add variation in your workouts. Also seem to help with elbow pain that I had been experiencing.

I'm sure that will have some effect on your gripping strength. The principle will be the same; larger grip = harder to grip. I'd imagine you'd go through sections of pool noodles quickly. I've seen guys also use the foam grips you see on kids' bikes. Just cut it lengthwise and wrap it around the bar.

I thought it got a little loose over time with a thin bar.
I find them to be slippery too. It's the material used. Chalk seems to resolve the problem though.

Will someone aware me on the benefits of these? I get fine results for increasing grip by simply deadlifting w/ my 32mm bar.

If they're worth it I'll pick a pair up.

Hi I use the XXL GRIP, they are much better as the Fat's are. They have no gap, through the ergonomic Design the are better to hold etc. And Dennis Wolf get also better results since he uses the original XXL GRIP from Germany.

You can see a comparison at their homepage xxlgrip.com under FAQs.

They are phenomenal for building grip strength. With a normal barbell you can maintain a grip simply by keeping your fingers hooked around the bar, and recruiting few forearm muscles. With fat gripz this isn't possible. You must maintain a constant squeeze to keep the bar in place. They recruit more forearm muscles and lead to much stronger grip development.

I have a pair and love them. I do pull ups a lot with them and haven't had any issues with them slipping or sliding. Same when I use them on my Rogue bar (28.5 mm).
