Keto signs without Ketostix
okay so this is my 3rd day on keto.....i havent been exactly writing down all my food but i only have been eating food if they are 2net carbs or less and i havent gone over 30 carbs.
i know if youre in ketosis your breathe might stink and your piss might stink but what are other sings...
my pee doesnt stink but it is darker than it was b4 keto and I have been drinking the same amount of water at the very very least 2 L....but closer to 4
twice i've gotten minor headchaes that dont last long AT ALL....and i never get headaches...could this be a sign
what are other signs to look for besides stinky breathe/urine?

o yea and even tho i have been eating alot and frequently i feel like im hungry
its not that my stomach is growling but i feel something inside my stomach and its not an ache, the feelin is closer to hunger than anything else...
anybody..same experience??

Your urine sometimes will get very foamy (though this can occur on any high protein diet).
You will lose your desire to eat carbs.
You wont feel hungry.
You will pee alot (in the induction phase)
You will see rapid fatloss (sometimes as much as 15 lbs in 1 week)
You will see changes in your mood (more stable, not highs and lows)
You will feel tired and sleep more (during 1st week or so)
Your appetite might increase slightly (during first week or so)

These are some of the things that can occur. The things that i note as occuring for a week or so, vary. It will continue until your body begins burning fat as its primary fuel source instead of carbs or protein.
But, its easier just to pay $15 for a bottle of Ketostix. Often i thought i was in Keto (like after a week) and the test kept testing negative. After i tweaked my diet, i saw a rapid change into ketosis.

what exactly did you tweak?
because i thought i had been in ketosis for about 5 days now and i keep testing negative and its pissing me off.
if any confession is to be had - maybe im overdoing the peanut butter or almonds?

I replaced most of my keto foods with Sausage and Bacon. I find these two foods are the best for achieving keto because of their higher fat, zero carb and moderate protein.

Now i do the following, which works quickly for me.
1. Take Glucose Disposal Agents (Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vanadyl Sulfate work the best).
2. Add some extra EFA or Flax Seed Oil supplements throughout the day, especially in the morning.
3. Switchout some Keto foods with Bacon and Sausage. They tend to be higher in fat then most keto foods.
4. Keep carbs under 20g (i find 15g or less works best for me).
5. Keep your workouts intense.

In short, increase fat, do stuff to decrease glycogen in muscles and keep new carb intake lower.

Most likely, i ran into problems with peanut butter. People said that it was a pure KETO food, that the carbs at 6g didnt make a difference because the fat percentage of calories was high.
But, i found by eliminating peanut butter, i achieve quicker and greater results. So these days i dont eat nuts or peanut butter unless i cant find any other KETO foods to eat.
I stick mostly with sausage, bacon and pepperoni. My other KETO foods include steak, cheese, tunafish, eggsalad, chicken salad, and lately with eggs.

awesome - thanks man - the info will definenetly be put to use. i take the v-sulfate in the first 3 days or so of working towards ketosis , i usually take 20mg morning with my higher fats , 10mg afternoon , and 20mg before bed. my problem is that i seem to wake up around 12:30 every other nite and just drag my zombiefied ass to the fridge and eat like 5 tblspns of peanut butter. its like im in a trance or something haha. but yeh - that alone is 30g carbs. ughh. sheesh.

Go to SAMs club and buy a package of pre-cooked bacon and a bag of Pepperoni and a bag of hard mozzarella cheese cubes.
Keep them in the fridge. If you get hungry, take a couple of slices of pepperoni with one cube of cheese and eat. Or a couple of slices of bacon.
These are like finger foods to me and probably make you more fuller then peanut butter and have fewer calories and definitely zero carbs compared to peanut butter.

When your hungry, convenience often sabotages diets. So make sure you have finger foods like pre-cooked bacon that are easily accessible.

You can always consider taking Hoodia later in the day. So that if you wake up int he middle of the night, your less hungry until morning.

i have the precooked bacon - ive already tried hiding the pnut butter in the back of the fridge haha - doesnt work. but yea thats good advice thanks. i also take 4 caps of chitosan before bed - it usually works - but sometimes its really just an issue of mind over matter as far as wakinig up and thinkingg youre hungry when youre really not.

If your doing KETO then avoid Chitosan. Take Hoodia instead which is a natural appetite suppresant. CHitosan prevents absorbing fat, taking it on a high fat diet just kills the purpose.

BSN and Phizogen make cheater's relief type products. Those would be ok right? I think they just block carbs

I use BSN Cheaters product. I keep it in my car encase i ever get cravings and cheat on my KETO diet.
The problem with BSN is that the Cheaters product is for Fat and Carbs. You take so many capsules 15min before your meal and 15 min after your meal based on the total grams of fat or carbs you overindulged in.
I have only used this once. The reason i dont use it often is that KETO is about FAT, and this blocks that fat absorbtion (contains Chitosan among other fat blockers).
So i dont know if it might put KETO out of wack?

Hmm..I thought it only did carbs. In that case, you would be better off not using it. Even for carb ups because during the carb ups, you WANT the carbs to refill the muscle glycogen.
I'm just wondering if pure chitosan exists on its own as a supplement or if you have to take it in Cheaters relief or the Cheat tabs...?

the chitosan supps i have are mixed w/ glucomannan & psyllium seed husks.
i realize that chitosan is a fat blocker , but honestly the more research i did on the stuff the more it became evident that most of the hype surrounding chitosan was just that - hype. an extensive study done at vanderbilt university showed that subjects taking 5000mg of chitosan a day blocked an average of 12 fat calories per 24 hour period - which is barely over 1 gram.
ive been taking it before bed because the pills swell to 50 times their size and it doesnt make wake up in the middle of the nite and go gorge on peanut butter. (it usually works anyhow) - but ill drop the chitosan just t obe on the safe side.
