It'll rust.
I have a small vise that I keep out on our covered patio (in central Arizona). It is mostly painted, but there's a small part of it that is not. That unpainted part is rusty even though it stays well away from the rain. It's generally a lot less humid here than elsewhere in the country.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

I need to update the training log that I started in the over 35 section and provide a link http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=156587933. I still lack a little motivation on the workouts, especially legs. Haven't done squats yet (can't do them or deadlifts in the basement right now - lack of room) just leg presses, but hopefully I'll change that this weekend.
My bench has been progressing nicely. I hit 365lbs the other day. I tried 375lbs and it just dropped like a rock and I couldn't move it. I was able to get 6 x 295 and 6 x 300 on the bench. I weigh 195lbs now.
I set a new deadlift PR today - 405lbs. That is the first time I've ever done 2 x bodyweight.Last edited by dumb.bell; 09-07-2013 at 10:36 AM.

I could be wrong, but I think the point of getting an unpainted rack is not to leave it unpainted, but to save a few bucks by painting it yourself. DIY also means that you can paint it whatever color you want...

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Now your numbers make sense, you have some real gaps between the lifts, rather than those small gaps that I have. I've got to start concentrating on the deadlift and squats. Unfortunately, I just enjoy benching so much more!
BTW - Your numbers are meet numbers, so we might have to discount my numbers some for a good comparison. I'm not sure what the meet rules are, but I'm probably not following them.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #39 ▪█─────█▪

No, I'm attempting to follow the one that I posted a few pages back. It is nothing more than something I created. I say attempting, because I always seem to fall short, especially at the beginning when I'm trying to get started/motivated.
This bulk season I'm going to try and do a better job of mixing high weight/low rep (3 to 6 reps) days with moderate weight/high rep (10 to 20 reps). I generally start out trying to do this and end up gravitating towards the high weight/low rep because I start chasing numbers. My understanding is that this type of workout really doesn't help muscle growth near as much as the moderate weight/high rep workout. With the low rep workouts I think you are training the nervous system (recruitment of more muscle fibers) more than the muscle based on the lack of "time under tension" which is necessary to build muscle/size.
To avoid this during my last bulk season, I didn't allow myself to use free weights except for an occasional bench workout where I just went for reps with 225. The workouts consisted almost entirely of machines with higher rep schemes. I gained more size than I ever have and I'm already seeing the benefits now that I have reintroduced the low rep work. As I'm retraining my nervous system for the heavy lifts I'm much stronger and making bigger/faster gains due to the increase in muscle mass from last years high rep bulk workouts.
I hope what I've just written makes sense. I'm hoping that combining the two types of lifting will produce better gains in both strength and size. I think the biggest issue will be staying disciplined and making sure I continue to do the high rep work and don't fall into my old habits of chasing numbers. Unfortunately, I'm already catching myself blowing off some of the high rep work for low rep work.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #39 ▪█─────█▪

Hey, I just had some excitement - my computer caught on fire!
I heard a pop and smelled smoke. I went around to the back of the machine and saw that the fans were blowing smoke out and there was a new glow, not caused by LEDs, coming from high inside the case. I opened it up and saw that the power cable going to the optical drive was on fire! I turned the machine off and it was still on fire, so I went down to the kitchen, fetched a fire extinguisher and put it out with one short burst. It's amazing how much fire fighting agent an extinguisher can discharge in such a short burst. It took me a while to clean it all up.
I ended up taking the machine out to my outdoor balcony where I removed the optical drive and power cable. Actually, it was an adapter that I removed - when I built the machine, I used a molex to SATA power adapter to go to the optical drive. (Either I had already used all of the power supply's SATA power connectors, or the cable run was too long to get one of the daisy chained SATA power connector over to the optical drive.) My guess is that the adapter's insulation wasn't very good, allowing either the +5 or the +12 wire to connect to the ground. The strand of wire which made the contact probably fried immediately, but the resultant spark and/or heat were enough to cause the plastic to start on fire.
Anyway, it's back up and running again, minus the optical drive. I'm going to get a new drive; it might be okay, but I don't trust it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35
