Man I love the LS, I bought my ES brand new back in 07 and I was going to upgrade to the LS in 2011, but instead bought my wife a brand new Durango citadel v8 hemi. Gas mileage on the Durango is pretty good when I drive it....but the wife sucks haha.

Skimmed most posts so will try to make random replies.
I've got a 2001 Ford F-150 4.2 V6 on my recent trip to Georgia to purchase a load of equipment/weights. I got about 20-21 MPG down there, with the truck loaded down and squatting on the way back I still managed to get 19 MPG. I filled up the night before and I filled up in Atlanta before heading home. Returned with about 1/4+ gas left in the tank. Now then I also used to have a 1997 5.7 Vortec Chevy K1500 Z71 extended cab, and the best MPG I ever got in it was just over 15 driving it to/from work (27 miles one way and mostly highway).
I'd say a truck as a daily driver is a horrid idea unless two things.
1. You live close to work
2. You can afford the gas and want to just drive something comfortable
At this point I'm driving a 2000 Lincoln Continental to/from work and it's only going to get about 22 MPG, but it's also a fully loaded Sedan with a 4.6 V8 (just like used in the Mustangs) :P
I think iron is the common metal used in safety bars, cheap and heavy duty. I mean why put stainless steel or some other fancy metal in a bar you know is going to potentially take a beating? And who cares about looks.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #56 ▪█─────█▪

I'm guessing that dumb.bell already knew that steel is used for making safeties, but what kind or steel? I had read somewhere in this forum that they should be made from spring steel - which, I think just refers to a particular type of tempering - but I don't know for certain if that is or should be the case. I was hoping that someone would provide an authoritative answer because I wanted to know too.

This guy might be a good source of information.

Doesn't answer exactly what type of metal/steel it is...but gives a bit of information. The last post about using weider's standard size bars and removing the sleeves seemed like a good idea.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #56 ▪█─────█▪

Seems most stainless steel round bar is actually 65%+ iron anyway. Also found a couple interesting websites.

Those made for some interesting reading. Looks like the 1018 cold rolled may be the answer. It has a Tensile PSI of 64k and Yield PSI of 54k. The 1144 had a much higher Tensile and Yield (115k and 100k respectively), but doesn't appear to be as weldable.
Although I would prefer to have a higher strength steel, I assume the 1018 will probably work since I'll only be spanning about 4ft and the rod will be running through a piece of 2 x 3 rectangular steel.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #39 ▪█─────█▪

We hiked up to Tom's Thumb on Friday. The allergy medicines that I'm taking are working pretty well, but I'm still not completely symptom free...

Hey all. I did some hiking yesterday. My buddy just got 8 stitches out of his foot recently, so we decided to do an easier hike. He lives in Mesa, so we headed to the Tonto National Forest and hiked Butcher Jones Trail. It was a cloudy, hazy morning and it was nice and cool.
Here's a shot from the end of the trail looking out towards Four Peaks.
The rocks here have all different shades of color. They're more apparent in the sun.
This is about 3/4 of way thru the trail. The Flatiron can be seen right in the middle of the pic off in the distance.

I gave in to the wifeys constant pestering to play monopoly, although every cloud has a silver lining. Mine came in the form of watching her titties jiggle when she was rolling the dice.

That's a great hike. It provides views that are quite a lot different than most of the hikes that I do. I hiked it about a week ago. We saw this rattlesnake on our way back from Burro Cove. Actually, there are two of them there. We probably interrupted them while they were mating.

that's a real nice looking car, dude. i'm rocking a chevy traverse at the moment...leather interior...awesome for cleaning up the kids vomit.
for Accutron, i wouldn't call it a truck by a LONG stretch (it's like a minivan, really, but it can haul a boat), but it's got a fairly hefty gas bill in itself...these days with the gas prices I'd easily estimate it being $60 bucks every 5-6 days of regular use. i'd love to have an actual truck one day, though.

No, No, its not a minivan. Its a crossover SUV! Believe me, my good friend got a divorce last year and his wife got the new car and he got the minivan. There is a big difference in a crossover SUV and a minivan! After setting up his first date post divorce, he went out and traded it for a Mazda Miata a few hours before picking the girl up.

lol!
yes, well the rationale behind getting it was that it could fit two carseats with bucket seats in a middle row (so no kids hitting each other) and also two-three extra adults as well in a third row...but then also convert to greater storage in the back when needed and to be able to hook into a trailer. it's definitely a frankenbeast, but so far i don't have any real complaints about it.

I used my home made bench today and the 17in. height worked a lot better than my Bodysolid bench, the wider pad felt better also. here's a pic

Do it yourselfers
Garage started to get crowded so I decided to build myself a shed so I can work out in there.
I honestly thought it'd be a lot harder than it's been so far. Can't believe I didn't do this sooner!
Here are some initial pics.
I am of course kidding. The thread was posted on another forum I frequent. I got a kick out of it so I thought I'd share.

After working out in my newly walled in breezeway for the first time, i realize one major thing, deadlifts using non-coated/rubber plates in a closed off smallish space = massive ear pain, lol. Good thing I always have some earplugs lying around in the house lol.

He mentions that the ground is mushy there. I'm surprised he didn't put down a concrete slab to build on.
I had a 10'x12' Tuff Shed put in a while ago. They said we didn't need a slab, so I didn't install one. After they put it in, I concluded that this was a mistake because it was put up over gravel with only a few wood shims to level things. I figured that the gravel would shift and the wood shims would rot, leaving it not level. I excavated around the edges of the shed and poured wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of concrete into the parts that I excavated. One corner was resting in an area that I thought was stable, so I skipped doing that corner. That turned out to be a mistake; that corner of the shed has sunk a little bit, making it more difficult to open and close the door. I'll figure out a way to jack up that corner some day and perhaps do the same thing for that corner.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35
