That one is pretty heavy in citrus I prefer masters bay rum its dirt cheap at Sally beauty supply but it smells right (my current barber uses it)
YOu might not have noticed but there is a different straight in each picture
Very true, there is a reason that company is still the industry leader and it isn't all down to massive amounts of advertising.

Hey Tim, any recommendations on a strop for a beginner. Also, what about getting a straight "shave ready"? I have a old straight that I inherited and wondered if I should send it to someone or learn to tackle it myself. I actually was able to shave a couple areas of my face when I first got it but without at least a strop it's been sitting waiting for some TLC.

Oh, I know...but need has nothing to do with it. I already snagged a clean late 60's Gillette "Super Speed" on ebay, so now I'm on the hunt for the right Merkur. I like the looks of the 47C, and the price seems pretty reasonable, so that may be the one I wind up with...to start with, anyway.

For a first razor I would send it out on that board there is probably someone who sharpens as a hobby pretty cheap and they will treat your blade with TLC. As far as strops this is what I have:
http://shop.thewellshavedgentleman.c...m1plqscsfapp03
I don't think there is any better one made Tony is awesome. Get the starter strop too otherwise you will cry the first time you nick the leather on your good one. When you nick your good one after using the starter strop you can at least blame yourself.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

I took this photo during Friday's hike. We hiked nearly ten miles with nearly 2000 feet of total ascent. (We were something like 36 feet short of 2000 feet and less than a quarter mile from hitting the ten mile mark.)
The large spindly plant with the reddish-orange flowers is an ocotillo. We haven't had rain in a while. Things are turning brown quickly.

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I was around here on a regular basis.
I saw this on the Ivanko FB page and thought of this group.....
http://screen.yahoo.com/lift-barbell...170208972.html
The bar SNAPS when the lifter completes the lift and drops the bar down on the bumpers (well, technically they are competition plates...)"I am only one man, but I am a strong man."

Question for the shaving aficionados on the forum...
Do any of you guys collect vintage razors? I was given a vintage single-edge razor 10+ years ago and really have no interest in collecting this type of stuff. I'd like to get rid of it and replace it with something I'd actually use, like a new Merkur double-edge razor.
It's a GEM Minuteman in the original box, most likely unused as the head is/was still wrapped in the original tissue paper and all paperwork is intact. Any idea of the value? I thought about asking on B&B, but I didn't want my first post to be about selling something. That's just rude.

How quickly do you want to sell it? The best way to determine the value is to do a completed items search on eBay, then follow all current auctions, and then make an email notification and track future listings for the next 30-60 days (or however long it might be before you want to sell it).
With that wide of a sample size, you should be able to see enough similar items in similar condition to figure out a realistic price."I am only one man, but I am a strong man."

I love this set. nice looking. I'll agree with the guys on B&B and say its pretty much to nice to use. If you do want to try a SE though I could send you a plain jane GEM from the 80's if you would cover shipping. I find DE shaving to be easier and straight shaving more satisfying than using a SE like these. shaving with one is ........different, its is a skill similar to using a straight in that the skin must be taut and your angle on the razor must be correct or you will bleed and since the blade has no give and sharp corners you sometimes can bleed pretty good.

I really have no intention of actually shaving with it. That was just a little tweak to the B&B folks and to see if I could ge someone to mke me an offer via PM. My initial post in that forum explained the story behind the aquisition of this set and asking for some sort of info regarding its value, but apparently that's a no-no that quickly resulted in me getting my peepee slapped and post edited by a mod.
I can do enough damage to my face/head with my DE razors. I definitely don't need to make things any harder. I appreciate the offer, though."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Very naughty stasher, I hope you learnt your lesson. lol
I couldnt resist having a go with my shavette razor a few days back. All was good around the cheeks, but I managed to put a 1cm cut into the side of my chin. More practice needed me thinks. I loved the feel of it though. I'm going to start saving for a proper straight now, I've definately caught the bug.My training log:

One reason I've never really gotten along there. I only found Stashers thread trying to get more info on his razor myself. I found other shaving sites much less hoity toity and relaxed. Though none of them are as relaxed and fun as this place (this thread I mean, the misc is a cesspit).

Below are a few photos from Friday's hike. We hiked only 4.67 miles, but had 1500 feet of elevation gain. These are views of (and from) the Tom's Thumb area in the McDowells...
This is the northwest side of Tom's Thumb. (See below.) The aptly named West Corner route can be seen in this photo. It's a class 4 route that follows the obvious rightward leaning ramp up to the top. This was the very first climb that I did - back in the late eighties. The descent was a double line rappel. (The Brits call it "abseiling".) That was my second rappel ever.
My first rappel occurred several years earlier in Iowa. I and a couple of other guys were coming back from a dorm party at a rural location with a guy who wanted to take his girlfriend rappelling. He drove us to a railroad trestle where all but one of us hiked out onto the bridge. One of the guys was in ROTC and took position below the bridge to pull on the rope in the event that one of us couldn't control our descent. John, the driver who wanted to impress his girlfriend, was giving the rest of us basic instructions about rappelling on the railroad trestle when we heard the whistle of a train. The four of us ran towards the train and jumped off the railway embankment just moments before the train reached us. I'm sure the locomotive driver saw us because he was frantically pulling on the whistle as he approached the bridge. John was undeterred. We traipsed back out onto the trestle and each of us rappelled off of it. I've probably rappelled hundreds of times since then, but that was without a doubt the most exciting one.

@KBKB. Is it still that green in the Sonoran Preserve or did you enhance the colors in the pics? I hiked over in South Mountain on Saturday and it was really brown. Most of the color and green from the spring was long gone.

The grass is all brown, but the shrub-like plants and some trees are still green. (We discussed this during the hike, so I have a clear memory of the color.)
I used a polarizing filter on my camera which seems to increase color saturation. I also boost saturation a bit during post processing. Sometimes I overdo it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

Here's another photo I worked on last night. There's a climber's access trail which leads from Tom's Thumb to the top of Gardener's Wall and then another trail that goes to the base of Gardener's Wall. The photo below is in a "cave" we had to crawl through when descending the climber's access trail leading from the base of Gardener's Wall back to the (main) Tom's Thumb Trail. (It's not a real cave. It's a big boulder stacked up on some other pretty big boulders.) The route we took is loose and steep. Exploration is often needed to figure out the best way to go. I don't recommend going this way unless you've done it before or are with someone who's been there before.

Looking for a nice chair for working at home 10+ shifts on a computer. I've been leaning towards the Steelcase Leap v2 in the $700-1000 range. Not a fan of the HM Aeron.
Others I have considered
-Humanscale Freedom (probably the biggest competitor in my mind)
-Steelcase Think
-Raynor Ergohuman v2
-Herman Miller Celle (though I think the cushions don't last very long on these)
Well...anybody here a desk jockey?
