I went to tractor supply to buy two stall mats and all they had were the diamond plate texture; is that the same everywhere?
I had to drive to Atwoods to pick up the smooth surface ones.

Twice as many extractors to lose tension and cause feeding problems. Thanks, but I'll pass.
I've owned six 1911's (three Colts, two Kimbers, and a Dan Wesson) and enjoyed shooting them all, but only one out of the six was reliable enough to carry on a regular basis. I kept the reliable one, sold the rest, and bought modern plastic guns that aren't as ammo picky, don't have magazine issues, and go bang when I want/need them to.
ETA: I'm wondering how they're going to skirt the whole "machine gun" thing with this monstrosity discharging more than one projectile with each pull of the trigger...
Section 5845(b) of the NFA defines “machinegun” as “any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.”Last edited by Stasher1; 12-05-2012 at 08:05 AM.

First...I think you forgot a "can" in there, so I fixed it.
Second....OMG, are they serious? I thought it was a silly photoshop pic until I saw the link to the article. So many other cool things they could spend their capital on. This is stupid and I'm not a 1911 hater.

Equipment crew, I'm going to turn a room into a mini gym..I dont even know where to start. Do you guys know of a website and would recommend buying from for equipment?
Looking for some dumbbells, plates, bar, bench, rack/cage, some sort of lat-pull down machine, flooring, ect?
If recommending a website is impossible then can you guys throw me some brand names to look up? Would greatly appreciate any help.RN/Healthcare Crew - FGC Crew

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Flooring: Stall mats. They're heavy so you should look for them locally.
For the rest of it, there are a lot of good options.
What's your budget and how much space do you have?
Were you thinking of adjustable dumbbells or fixed weight dumbbells?
What size of cage did you want? What features?
Bench: Adjustable or flat?
Here are a few sites to start looking at:

First let me thank you for being helpful.
To answer your question:
-My budget..I'm looking at ~2,000
-Space is undetermined as of right now. Its got a lot of unused furniture and cabinets stockpiled up. We still have to clean out the whole room then determine the space.
-I think I would prefer fixed weight dumbbells unless anyone can convince and recommend me of a really good and reliable adjustable dumbbells. Guess I'm just used to the fixed dumbbells from my paid local gym. And I have no experience with an adjustable dumbbells.
-Cage..not sure yet, will probably have to look around and discuss with some people who will be using the gym.
-Bench..I guess adjustable unless you guys recommend a non adjustable over the adjustable.
Regarding the flooring, I was doing some reading and saw some rubber flooring but if you guys recommend stall mats locally then ill go with it.
Again thanks for the help. I will definitely check out those links.Last edited by .:Chris:.; 12-05-2012 at 06:08 PM.

Those stall mats are 100 lbs each shipping would be unreasonable unless you need a 25 from the manufacture. Call some stables and see if they sell them for less or know where you can buy them cheap.
tractor supply company does carry them in your area for 42 dollars and I'm sure they have a dimond plate pattern on them.Last edited by ExtremistPullup; 12-06-2012 at 07:54 AM.

There are two reputable manufacturers of adjustable dumbbells, Ironmaster and PowerBlock. There are pros and cons to each. Do a search here in the equipment forum and you'll find more than a few threads on the matter.
Both space and money can be major considerations when deciding whether to get a rack of fixed weight dumbbells or some adjustable ones. Adjustable dumbbells are somewhat cheaper - though still surprisingly expensive if you get them new. They also require a lot less space.
If you're considering Ironmaster dumbbells, then consider the Ironmaster Super Bench too. You can get a package deal and save some money.
You have a better chance of actually staying within your budget if you buy used as AttyGuy recommends.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

Just to add on to what KBKB said, I'm not sure where you are located in NJ, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding good equipment on Craigslist. It would be a good idea to start with the stickies on power racks and FAQ's. There is a ton of good information in them.
The power rack is really the centerpiece of a home gym, as you are probably already aware. Have you thought about what features are important to you in a rack? Some racks come with sabre-style safeties, others have pop-pin safeties, and others have swing-in safeties. The style of safety may or may not be important to you. Other things to consider are the height of the rack, whether you want a rack with a lat pulldown attachment (or a stand alone pulldown). Some racks come with J-hooks on the outside of the rack, some don't. Some come with dip handles and/or weight storage pegs. The options are befuddling, which is why everyone is suggesting that you read the stickies.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

You won't know what you want, really want, until you do. During the period before you figure things out you are going to be spending a lot of money on stuff that you think you want but you end up not wanting. For that stuff, buy used. And when you decide what you really want, buy used as well, if you can. Some things don't always show up on cl when you want them, let alone in the finish that you want. But remember, you are just starting out. You don't know what you don't know, and one of the things you don't know is what you really want in a home gym.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Thanks guys, I guess it varies everywhere. I'm starting a handyman business, just doing a bit of everything from gardening, to plasterin , plumbing and all the other little jobs around the home except for electrics and roofing. I thought I was coming in quite cheap, but it feels like people just want you to work for free, aswell as buying the materials for them. Was just having a bit of a $*** day when I asked that as a customer looked at me like I was robbing her when I said how much was owed including materials and labour (I told her my hourly rate when she called and she said "thats great").
I suppose you can't please everyone. My training log:

Generally I was referring more to what guys get paid.
The company they work for or you if you are the company would bid the whole job rather than an hourly rate at least for many things. Like the floor I had put in recently. We had three companies out to the house so they could measure out and see what the job would be then they told us what they would charge for the whole job. We went with the larger company whose bid was a little higher but whom also warrantied their work and as a bonus allowed us to get the materials through them at a discount.
For most jobs I wouldn't pay by the hour. Just to much chance of me getting screwed by a slow worker milking the clock. Things go more quickly in general when they know that the faster they get it done the more they make.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

Yeah, I would do the same. Far too many people just go with the cheapest price and thats rarely the best person for the job.

Hey all. I did some hiking this morning. Holbert Trail South Mountain. I stopped at the Dobbins Lookout, the highest point you can hike to in the preserve. After that, I went to the end of Holbert Trail and then took the National Trail to Buena Vista Lookout. Total roundtrip 7.06 miles and I was out for 3 hours 52 minutes.
Holbert Trail is a great climb and is never crowded. It's pretty rocky and you have to watch your step. I hiked Camelback last weekend with 3 other people (no pics) and it was packed. I was just miserable. Today, I was on my own and it was quiet and peaceful. Here's a few pics.
These 1st two are of some petroglyphs that are at the start of the trail. This is one of the better places to view them in the Valley. They were chipped into the rocks by the Hohokam people who lived in this area hundreds of years ago. Most historians say they lived here from 600 AD to 1450 AD.
This is the end of the Holbert Trail looking north.
Looking west. The mountains in the back are the Estrellas.
The Chinese Wall. It's a huge lava formation that runs along the mountain on the south side.
Here's a couple shots as I was descending the trail.

I don't know if anybody remembers me telling you about my friend who had his arm snap benching and then the other arm 6 months later. Well today was his comeback meet and he managed to bench 450lb or 205kg raw. It was pretty impressive knowing what he went through this last year and a half. There was also a 71 year old women at the meet who lifted fully geared and was obviously not a beginner. Powerlifting Granny! Go girl!

Kinda sad- selling the reverse hyper today. I need the space for other stuff in the gym and have access to one at a "real" gym, so it's not really a big loss for me, but I still feel sad.
I picked up a gun "safe" the other day. It's really just a locking steel cabinet, not fire rated. I got it for free from my sister (her ex took guns and left the safe when he moved out) though, and I really just wanted someplace to lock the guns up and keep them away from the kids. Mine know not to touch, but their friends may not. I kept the pistols in a small safe, but my rifles and shotgun were up in the closet with the trigger locks on."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine
