I skimmed that thread. Decided not to respond.
Here are three photos from last Sunday. My wife and I hiked the Pass Mountain Trail at Usery Mountain Park. I got a bunch of photos that day, but the only really good ones were taken around sundown. I've been attempting to integrate some of the techniques from Modern Photoshop Color Workflow into my processing. These are some early results.

I have been on travel and am just catching up now on bb.com. The ad has been pulled. It could have been someone trolling you, or it could have been someone having some fun with you. Most who here who are active on cl have been targeted in one way or another. Call it jealousy or competition. Whatever the reason, it sucks. Learn to adapt and overcome, and don't take it personally.

Didn't someone here have access to someone that powdercoated their plates before?
My brother in law has access to all kinds of fun tools down at Tech Shop in Santa Clara that include a sandblaster and powdercoating setup. He said you kind of need to know how long to bake the plates for based on consistency and size. Does anyone have any good general rules for redoing plates? I figure we will do some test runs with smaller plates and work our way up to the big boys. I think I'd like to redo all my Yorks and possibly Ivankos this way.Last edited by aclockworkoi; 11-25-2014 at 07:34 PM.

I do hobby powdercoating. I haven't done any plates yet but I've sure thought about it. Browsed a few times for a color & texture that matches the Ivanko grey/green hammered and havent found anything real close.
I don't know what he's talking bout "you kind of need to know how long to back the plates for based on consistency and size." Maybe some shops have different procedures but what I do and what I understand is the norm is to check the part often with an IR laser temp gun to see when it gets to the proper temp then start your cure time. If you were doing multiple of the same part then you could probably skip the IR gun if you recorded the time it took for the first part to reach temp.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 21

This one looks close for pure color, but no texture.

Thanks RDH! Man, my MPV failed the smog test I need to do to get registration and sell it. High hydrocarbons. Went to change spark plugs and found that to change the back three you have to take off the whole intake manifold. Took me 5 hours because I'm a novice but The shop quoted me 3 hours labor and $500. Good use of a day off I guess. Cleaned out the intake manifold and throttle body while I was in there.
Hope everyone in the US has a good Thanksgiving tomorrow, for everyone else, have a good Thursday!

We don't have emissions here. It's a double edged sword. It's nice being able to mod your vehicle (in a way that isn't entirely destroying the environment), but at the same time, people ride around with vehicles that really shouldn't be on the road. Makes me want to have a diesel swap done, but that's big bucks (at least $15k+ per vehicle).
Speaking of problems with vehicles, I got rid of a Challenger RT about 3 days ago. Worst vehicle in my life. Tranny, suspension, & AC, not to mention other problems that 3 dealerships would not fix & I was told they don't have to honor any warranty if they simply don't like me. The entire ordeal of claiming a warranty is at their discretion. 18 months & 18k miles later, my stress has lowered quite a bit. There we go, I feel a bit better now! I've been dealing with this for 8 months, almost daily in some context.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I had a friend with one he used as a daily driver for years and it didn't give him any problems. That's a bummer. Cali also has good lemon laws too. When I bought a Celica used factory certified from the dealer and it had a cracked block they dicked me around for almost a month without a rental(I was 20) until I brought up the fact that lemon laws apply to factory certified used and they had 4 days left on the timer. That got them moving real quick .

Warranties are by and large worthless these days. Some companies will honor them, others will look for any excuse to get out of it.
I have found trannies are simply a luck of the draw. The tranny in my Jetta went two years ago and I had to get it rebuilt. I talked to several mechanics about it - they all agreed the best way to avoid a transmission problem is to buy a manual. Automatic trannies are such a complex system of so many moving parts that no make or model can really be more reliable than others - it's all a crap shoot. One friend is a Ferrari tech - he almost fails the automatic transmission portion of this certification every year - for him, the biggest attraction of working for Ferrari was never having to deal with automatic transmissions.
That said - I have also become aware of a guy who specifically looks to buy cars that have manual transmissions with problems in the reverse. You can get them dirt cheap because people don't know what to do. His driveway is a decent slope so he can just coast out. Then he just has to make sure he either pulls through when parking or parks on a slope.Boomer Rep Crew #1

I think it really depends on preferences. I don't like driving stick. I'm not a race fan & I don't "feel" cool having one. Just not my thing. Its also a pita if someone needs to drive your vehicle who can't drive stick & most people these days can't. I applaud people who buy them still, they are a dying breed. I've never had a GM trans fail me or even begin to show problems. Chrysler, we're 3 for 3 in the pos department.
The more I've read about Chrysler transmissions, as a whole, they are worthless. My truck (Ram) is starting to not shift smoothly (under 18k miles, no towing beyond 2000 lbs, max). It's going too, very soon. Sad really, the car is a 2013 & truck, a 2012. The rental I eventually got during this process of "fixing" the Challenger (throttle body replaced; made no difference) also had the same "kick" as my car, but an entirely different power train; I think this is just how they build them. Even the service manager at dealership #3 said they either have a harsh shift or develop it over time. This contradicts everything I've been told by Chrysler & how they market the vehicles (smooth shifting). I've been told it's all in my head. I must be amazing b/c I can make thoughts physically manifest, but only when it comes to this brand!
I have a GM again. I know those powertrains & have enough of a knowledge base (or know where to find the info) to get the fix done correctly if anything comes up & if I can't handle it myself, I can tell a mechanic what to do first. I have a slight 1-2 shift issue (yep first time dealing with a GM trans issue, but it's honestly minor) that I'm going to try to fix by replacing the throttle position sensor (the issues is widely documented & fixes are easy). We're talking late 90s through 2000s, when sensors didn't comprise 90% of the vehicle (or so I've been told by Chrysler, but they couldn't confirm if that's by weight or volume).
The more I read about newer tech in cars ( & I'm a tech guy, I love tech), I cringe because execs who work for car companies apparently don't understand that you have to build a platform for YEARS & test it for stability before releasing. This includes sensors, all computer components & most importantly, ironing out all of the idiosyncrasies of the system itself. Look at what Intel does & they still have problems, albeit, mostly minor at this point in comparison to cars.
As for that guy up there, wow. Sounds like something we'd do down here, at least some of the swamp rats. I guess he never goes into large cities, lol & parallel parking isn't even an option! People never cease to amaze me!

Golden
Priceless.
On the subject of expensive maintenance the 2004-2008 Ford F150 XLT 5.4 L V-8 Triton engine was known for the broken spark plugs during replacement. Dealers refused to cover the broken plugs they broke and charged $80.00 to $100 per hole to remove the broken plug not including the tune up.

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I have a lot going on with my new job, two children under 4, and getting our home ready to sell. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support in my personal life and consequentially keeping up with my lifting goals. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday and I wish everyone the best!!!
