+1. I haven't had cable tv for awhile and have managed pretty well between finding shows online and Netflix. Plus not having live tv keeps me out of the habit of just wasting time watching random crap - now I can devote that time to browsing Craigslist and the forums . As mentioned, the only real downside for me is sports - you can find streaming sites, but the quality isn't great and it's on a bit of a delay. It's also a hassle switching between games.

My guess would be cheap Chinese. That looks like a set screw rather than a roll pin--it probably fits into a groove in the end of the bar to keep the sleeve on. A York or similar quality bar would have a roll pin that goes through a doughnut-shaped piece at the end of the bar to keep the sleeve on.

I agree that based on what can be seen on the photo, it is likely an inexpensive bar. But I don't think there's any benefit to a roll pin instead of a set screw. On the vintage York bars, I actually prefer the set screw (1970s) rather than the thin roll pin (1980s).
edit... maybe I'm wrong. The pin does goes all the way through. I guess I could go either way. But the 70s bars also have threaded caps and they probably aren't going anywhere.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉

Interesting....I thought that all York bars had roll pins/donuts, it's good to know that you can tell the age.
I just assumed that the set screw was an inferior method in general, I see it more on cheaper bars than the roll pin or snap ring. I agree that the good manufacturers can use a cheaper method of attaching the sleeves to a bar and have it work well because they do it the right way.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

It's hard to compare modern stuff to vintage York in terms of quality and overall solidness. The older York bars, the donut screws on, and the set screw holds it from coming loose. Unfortunately, I discovered my 60's bar has the threads stripped on one end of the bar.
I haven't forgot about taking better pics of my OB84. Will post in Ivanko thread when I finish painting my unbranded Ivanko plates..RARE. VTG. HTF.

Hey guys...anybody recognize these benches?
The second one kinda looks like an older version of this York bench...
They've been listed on Ebay for a long time now, and the seller isn't all that far from where I work.Last edited by Stasher1; 10-15-2013 at 02:03 PM.

Looks like they both need some "help" from the old mig welder and the local upholstery shop, but I'm kinda digging them right now. Thinking about making him a cash offer for the pair. They've been listed for over a year, so the price(s) ought to be somewhat negotiable..."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

looks like the pop pin on the first is broken, but that's not terribly hard to fix.
I like that first one, looks really familiar but I can't place my finger on it. ugly color though.Boomer Rep Crew #1

I don't think it's broken, I believe it's missing completely. From the looks of it, the pop pins for both sections of the bench are missing, and the seller propped them up with bolts for the pics. They're easily replaced if you know the maker, but I think it may be faster to just cut the current ones off and replace them with new weld-on pop pin assemblies."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

it looks to me like the head of the first one is broken off and that is just the stud of the pin. But I have been wrong before.
You don't really need to know the maker, they sell universal pop pins at industrial supply houses.Boomer Rep Crew #1

Alright, well the gold/yellowish part is the nut of the pop pin right?
if you unscrew that, you should be able to replace the pin assembly from another pop pin is all I am sayingBoomer Rep Crew #1

I think that might just be the rust around the receptacle for the pop pin. In any event, I'd need to get a good close look at it to see if it's even worth messing with, and to measure its height in the flat position. If it's too tall, I'm not interested at any price. If I'm going to have to cut/weld to make it the right height, I may as well put that cash into steel and build my own.

I'd agree, looks like its just rust. So I am short and have issues with my Pro Star bench height. I've never measured it but I cannot get my feet flat on the ground when benching. I always assumed it was just 19' or something. I used a PowerBlock bench at one of my satellite offices yesterday and the height felt great. I was EASILY able to get my feet down and benching felt great(though I think their weights are off and too light). I took a tape measure to it and was astonished to see it was 18" to the top of the pad. Mine must be a giant. I am going to have to try to find a shorter bench and resell this one, or just use it as a dumbbell bench. Maybe I just buy a flat bench for benching?

Nah. I started crunching the numbers and realized that I'd have at least $200 in the one with the ugly colored pads once I fixed its issues (pop pins, upholstery, sanding/painting, etc), and that's assuming I could grab it for 1/2 of his asking price. At full price it would wind up being about $250 total, and that just doesn't look like a $200-250 bench to me.
They're not going anywhere at his current prices, so I can snag them at a later date if I feel like i really need a project to lose money on. . I picked up a couple Body Masters benches instead, and will probably wind up redoing them when i get bored."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
