Ironically, for speaking the truth :/

Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, what Romney has said is not incorrect. He is right. The problem he has is that people despise the wealthy and he is the embodiment of that. Wealthy white guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth that may have achieved a lot, but quite clearly is someone so many people wont and cant identify with. Not only that, he is despised because of the culture that has developed, one where class warfare is the order of the day and we hold the wealthy responsible for all our problems.
This will be spun like you cant believe, and it has already started with the bias in this article. You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president.
On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax."
This is an utter disaster for Romney.
Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he's been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.
Romney has been vigorously denying President Obama's claims that his tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. Now, he's been caught on video suggesting that low- and middle-income Americans are undertaxed.
Romney does not say that he does not care about the 47%, he is saying that way too many of the 47% have victim entitlement mentalities where they feel they are due more for nothing. He cant fight that mentality. When half the population pays zero income tax, and then complains that they are not being given more free ****, how do you combat that? He does not mean not to worry about them in a governmental sense, he is talking about winning an election. Purely a political point of view.
Im no fan of Romney, but this just shows what a farce its becoming.

I don't think Obama will have the same support he had last time, couple that with the fact that most independents probably agree somewhat with what Romney said then this really doesn't change much.
What Ronmey needs to begin doing is concentrating on QE3, how it's a direct sign of the failure of the Obama administration, the inflation it will cause, and how THAT will rob poor people who are on fixed incomes. That will help get independents and perhaps those on fixed incomes as they will greatly affect them.

Dude, you give them too much credit.
In this very article, reporting the conversation, the journalist has managed to throw in accusations of elitism.
Does not matter that Romney was talking about winning an election. The journalist put it forward that 47% are losers in his eyes. He also puts it forward that Romney does not give a **** about the 47%, rather than seeing it as 47% in the context of the election.
Democrats will use this to say he does not care about the 47%, that he wants to raise their taxes while he keeps the riches lower, how he looks down on them, etc

Of course, there's a huge percentage of people who not only expect the government to pay their way, but they're proud to take advantage and exploit any social programs they're a part of. It's very disgusting to witness first-hand.
Now, I don't think that's anywhere near as high as 47%. That number seems too high. I also don't meet a lot of people who dislike the rich. Only the overly ambitious, cutthroat, and greedy, which some believe Romney to be.
Of course there's a lot of people out there who will vote for Obama no matter what. There's a lot of people out there who will vote Republican no matter what, too.

I think what he meant to say, but worded poorly, was that 47% of the population are going to vote for Obama no matter what, not that 47% of the population are entitlement whores.
Both Romney and Obama are fighting over less than 10% of the voting population and I don't think his comments are going to make much of a difference. Anybody insulted by his comments wasn't planning on voting for him anyway.

47% of the population does not pay income tax, yet demands more of its government and the people who are already paying tax.
How exactly is THAT not greedy?
Just like the people flipping homes were not greedy, it was the bankers who fueled the house flippers?
Nah bra, he has a point. When half the population does not pay income tax, and then demands more from its civil services, how do you campaign with a message for that group when you are wealthy?

I'm not sure if it's a fact or not but I heard on the news that roughly half of that 47 percent are retired social security beneficiaries. Then you have people making relatively low wages who pay payroll taxes which top out around 15 percent ( higher percentage then Mitt Romney himself paid last year lulz). If this shiet checks out then Mitt dun goofed when they blow this up on every news station calling him a misinformed and out of touch idiot.

I don't really see what's so controversial about what it said? Is anyone surprised that he believes that?

I'm not a Romney fan, but at least he's sticking to what he said.
Romney explained his remarks by saying that those who pay no taxes or rely on government services would be less likely to be swayed by his message, and that reflects the differing worldviews of himself and Obama.
“The president believes in what I’ve described as a government-centered society, where government plays a larger and larger role, provides for more and more of the needs of individuals. And I happen to believe instead in a free enterprise, free individual society where people pursuing their dreams are able to employ one another, build enterprises, build the strongest economy in the world,” he said.
"...it’s a message which I’m going to carry and continue to carry -- which is, look, the president’s approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes because frankly my discussion about lowering taxes isn’t as attractive to them, and therefore I’m not likely to draw them into my campaign as effectively as those who are in the middle,” Romney said.Audentis Fortuna Iuvat

Because as a president you should care about everyone in the country, not just the people you like. Sure a lot of people on welfare are pos. But a lot of them really need some help. If you generalize it shows you are not ready to lead. A leader cares for all his people not just the ones who can help him succeed.
There is no they…

Because the uneducated, stupid American electorate would rather believe 'their' candidate shyts rainbows and sunshines. Both parties want the plebians to think their candidates can do no wrong and aren't human.
I dislike Romney because the GOP could've picked someone else but he's right here. And the same people attacking him would agree if they were forced to pay a chunk of their salary to taxes.
