Greetings fellow BB's!
I understand that as far as reps go for exercises 1-5 usually = Strength and 8-12 Hypertrophy, but I was trying to get some confirmation based off a Layne Norton Article I read. People have told me progressive overload = Strength gains, but one thing Layne Norton mentioned about progressive overload made some sense (Notsureifcommonsense) but based off of being told that progressive overload is = to strength gains wouldn't it also lead to hypertrophy or mass gains? Considering Layne Norton made a good point when he stated "How many people with chicken legs do you see squatting 500 lbs?" Once again, I'm just a beginner trying to get some advice as I look up to you O35 considering you guys have been lifting for years and years; I apologize if not being 35+ brings disrespect to this section of the BB forums but I'm very anxious to learn everything I can about Nutrition and weightlifting so that I may pass it on to future BB's. Cheers!

My guess is both if you have a solid diet , workout program and rest. But the type of program you follow might define which one of the two you will focus on more.
Maybe this article will also help you out some more.

Yes.
Progression is the holy grail of all disciplines of weight training. If you're not constantly striving to lift more weight and/or more reps (with good form), your body has nothing further to try to adapt up to.
If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.No brain, no gain.
"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon
