My football coach made us practice in 104 degree texas weather?

104 degrees, clear skies, 2 kids had heatstrokes because we had punishment (400 yds bearcrawls, 400 yds running up downs) is that legal? i heard the limit is 102 degrees?

The point of practice the way I see it is to be hard as **** so your prepared for games but if his not letting you guys get hydrated during the heat his kind of a idiot but I guess he made you guys practice so you will be ready for the games you never know when you 'll have a 104 degree's game

Probably not. Most state-governed athletics associations have very specific rules governing play during the "elements" and I'm guessing that your coach, aside from being a ****ing retard, broke some very serious rules/laws.

I don't know what the local districts sports policies are on heat limits, but they should have a limit on stupidity.

I would not say that 104 degrees is inherently a "no practice" zone, but every idiot out there would know that there should be plenty of breaks to check the kids responsiveness, how they feel, and a looooooooooooooot of water buckets around. Properly hydrated 104 should be tolerable, especially if they get those helmets off regularly.

Heatstroke is deadly serious. I'd have his ass on a platter.

Kids are getting soft nowadays. When I played in high school we played in 90+ degrees heat 22 days straight of double sessions! We had to be on the field by 7:30 and practice ran to 12 then we had lunch/stay in the gym/sleep and back on the field by 2:30 and off the field by 7:30ish... and there was no green grass! There was a drought which made the fields dusty.... It was terrible... but that is what we did to get better! We won 62 games straight which is still the NJ HS record (44-0 my career).

but yes.. it's now illegal to run practices when the temperature hits a certain degree and I believe double sessions are also done.

I'm not really commenting on the softness of kids here- don't really think it even applies/matters. What I am saying is 4 cases of heat stroke means the coach was not taking care of hydration. I pretty much think everyone knows that on a day like that, you have to be careful. I did not say no practice- just make sure you take extra care to watch the 44 or so you have under your care.

I've had to do that multiple times. Luckily, my coach is much smarter and delays punishments and gives us more water than usual if it gets too hot.

Your coach is kind of stupid...
