I grew up in a household where my parents always told me "always remember to go to college, get a degree, and get a good job". Sounds reasonable and normal right?
I'm 22 and have noticed alot of friends around my age (18-25ish) are happy (which is hard to achieve imo) but have little to no life ambition. Why?
Friend 1:
-Works at my part time job grocery store and is making 9$ an hour. He's 24 and never went to college and doesnt plan on going.
Friend 2:
-Went to college for a bit and wanted to eventually become a vet, she's 21. Dropped out for some reason, now continues to work minimum wage job (and I havent asked her about her future, not my business)
Friend 3:
-Has to pay for school on her own and is working for it, fair enough, she's also 19. Plans to take 1-2 classes a semester and wants to be a criminal psychologist, she says it'll take 12 years to get her degree?
These are the kind of people where I'm really curious where they'll be in 10 years from now. My best friend is studying education and will probably only make 40k a year, better then minimum wage (which is what alot of people are content with??)
Aware me misc? And yes I know that not everyone has a rich ceo 10k/day family that can pay for college, but who was student loans?

I don't think I'm going to have a kid if I still make 40,000 a year

Going to school isn't required to succeed/be financially stable(independent)but it sure helps. They will find their place OP, everyone always does. It's a sad fact of life, but kitchens need cooks, floors need to be mopped, etc etc.

Agree that vast majority aren't hungry in terms of advancing their job/career. Need to have the Picasso mindset.
My mother said to me, 'If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.' Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.★ misc audiophile crew ★

I'm actually gonna rep you because I totally agree that happy and good job do not go hand in hand. But isint there a limit?
Who wants to be 40 and working at wal-mart with their gf (also making minimum wage somewhere else) and making money to barely pay rent and pay food?? What if they have a kid? Sure they can be totally happy (which im mirin) but still... cringe at that life.

It's very possible to be happy at 43 with a wife (and maybe one kid). But i mean lettuce be real... you only get one life. Dont get why so many people wanna live it living a life style where they maybe make 100-200 a month surplus (after all bills are paid). Doesnt sound safe and secure if something happens.

Why cringe though? Shouldn't it be counted as a blessing to find happiness relatively easily? To be truly content with out the need to compare your life with another's is very rare, most people's goals are generic, as in they strive to achieve what is generally seen as positive by society, and they measure their self worth by how they compare to others in these aspects, it's a pretty unfulfilling lifestyle as the self needs to be constantly satisfied in accordance to keep up with the current trends and technologies, whereas those who don't care for that will find happiness easier as its gained purely subjectively. Live life by your own terms, and respect those who live by theirs.

you need drive and insecurity to crave success.
my early years (0-7) we were living in poverty I was underweight and electricty was out probably 15hrs a day and lived in a chitty house
(3rd world country) once you experience these things in your development years and see straight up poverty everyday it changes you.
While your friends during the early years were probabley pampered with all their needs met, they were comfortable.
this in turn leads to less of an ambitious state for them for the future.
while in my case getting bbqed as a 5yr old in 40 degrees celcious wether for most of the day, it lights a fire inside you (no pun intended) to achieve great things.Ever tried, ever failed..
No Matter fail again... fail better.

Based off of your post I'm assuming your parents pay for your car, insurance, cell phone, clothes, food, entertainment, and most importantly your college education. If this is the case you have no clue man, no ****ing clue at all. I'm not trying to be a **** toward you bro, but you got no idea how hard life is for most people.
The second thing I want to say is that if you and your friends are 22 years old, you guys are babies. I really mean that. The **** that can happen to you between now and the time you are 30 is without bounds. Don't assume that those people will always remain in their current position.
My honest assessment is that people with wealthy parents tend to be average. They will likely get a high paying job through their free education and family's hookups, and possibly work their way up, but ultimately they will be average because they don't know struggle, real struggle that creates obsessive, passionate behavior that all great men who have achieved high status have.
The best human beings I know are always those who had the least and made the most of it. Their level of empathy, critical, and objective thinking is so much higher than the average American *******.Trump 2020
