I'm an atheist, and I always wondered, with all we know about science, why do people believe in god? I finally realize, If you don't believe in god, then you have to accept the fact that nothing really matters. If you die, there's no heaven or hell, it's just over. Anything you do is meaningless. You're as insignificant as an ant in the grand scheme of things. You can "fuk bishes and make millions of dollars" or have a family and work hard to take care of your kids, but 100 years from now, it won't mean anything. Hopefully some intelligent miscers read this before the parade of 4channers ruin it with gifs.

Lots of scientists believe in God. It's like evolutionists arguing with creationists. Evolution doesn't necessarily exclude God, and vice versa.

I know dat feel bro. In a world where we are more connected but less attached to each other every day, we as humans, yearn for emotional support. Religion can certainly fill this gap, but it is hard to fill if your not religious. You just have to accept it as it is and not dwell over it.

that is nihilistic *******ry.
life is what you make it. if you expect someone or something else to give it meaning, you are a failure as a human being.
"****ing bitches and making millions of dollars" is a way to numb yourself and forget the terrifying reality: you don't matter in virtue of being alive. you only matter if you do something worthwhile. that's why people want to **** bitches and make money, they think that's the only think that matters.
you like the Spartans? look at Leonidas. how did he live? do you think he was a ******* who moped about how life is pointless? did he just want money and pussy? **** NO.

i am indian and let me tell you, being indian is actually a great thing. we have beautiful people and we have ugly people. just like any race. I for 1 am a great person, have great friends, and i take care of every one that is in my life and i am glad to do it, and for that i have people that love me around me. also, indian parents are one of the best parents you can have. sometimes they can be really strict, but they will take care of you no matter what, and they will buy you what ever it is that you need. as long as your not a selfish ****head. Also, we all have great jobs, lots of money and a family that we all love and take care off. suck my dick op suck my dick.

Agree. But as an atheist, I'm not restricted to anything either because I know I won't get punished for masturbating or having sex before marriage. I can do what the fúck I want.
But yeah, knowing that everything is pointless does make life less of a mystery and a bit depressing. Just gotta make yourself happy.
I use the word "knowing" as in what I believe before religious people go crazy.

i think most people believe in a god just to make themselves feel better. its total self indulgence.
there is nothing after this so you just enjoy it now as much as you can.
the idea of a heaven makes me sick anyway, what a load of bull****.

no, it means the life we have now means EVERYTHING, as there is no afterlife we have to make the most of every second we have here as there is nothing else, i dont see that as depressing, and saying what we do does matter is stupid, if you do something even little, and jus maake someone happy, you have improved their life, that matters, even if its never recorded in history or in some divine view, it still matters to the person you helped

oh really *******. let's take a closer look.
oh look, the declaration that "nothing really matters". interesting. that sounds like the view that: god gives meaning to the world, and without god, there is no meaning.
am i wrong? please ****ing explain this to me, show me your understanding *******.

scientists who believe in god are hypocrites. it shows how people will WANT to believe at the end of the day, and will accept things on faith. that's why people argue that reason and faith are opposites, and can't mess with each other. which is garbage. reason fittingly crucifies faith.
evolution DOES exclude god, by definition. adding god into our ontology is as useless as adding a wheel to a toaster. WHY would we do that? just to make us feel better because we like wheels? it serves no benefit to the system of science to put a god in there, it fundamentally speaks against the system itself. it's a useless addition.
it's sickening how people will do mental gymnastics to find excuses to do things they want to do, or that they have already done. man up and look at the world as it is, not as you want it to be, and accept it. for whatever reason, most people are too weak and want something "more" and are willing to do anything they need to feel better about it, to feel special, unique, precious, etc.

Another one who doesn't understand OP's point. Everything we do, ultimately, is pointless. Time will forever go on but we will be forgotten and our actions made redundant.
lol'd.
Yes humans are smart COMPARED to what else is on the planet. Smart is a subjective term. We are "smart" but we still get sick, hurt people, die, get disabilities etc. Why would a creator do that?
Yup.

Ummm, you said it all yourself. Without a god, or afterlife, why does anything matter?
Eventually the universe, or earth certainly, will cease to exist. So will we all. Everything that ever was will be remembered by no one and will be erased.
So yes, you can go out tomorrow and murder 500 people. It won't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Nothing will.

You're absolutely right.
There is no good and no evil, no right and no wrong. Only indifference. (paraphrasing Dawkins here)
It's not really depressing if you think about how it gives you the freedom to do absolutely anything you want, provided the decisions are rational and won't **** up your life so you cannot make the best of it.
This knowledge enables us to not be constrained by any of society's pressures. Don't want to get married or have kids or get a job? It doesn't matter.
I would describe it as liberating rather than depressing.
