Taking protein while trying to lose weight

I work out mainly to stay in shape but would also like to lose some pounds/fat. I would like to start taking protein after work outs for muscle building, will this affect my weight loss? Should ALL women who workout take protein? If not then who shouldn't?

It makes no difference as far as weight loss, just make sure you are getting in the correct amount of calories if you're trying to lose weight. I personally do use protein shakes, it's an easy way to get in a quick 50g of protein for only a couple hundred calories. Chicken breast works just as well but I find that hard to keep in my gym locker lol. It depends what's easier for you, if you'd like to get some protein in post workout on your drive home from the gym then go for it. If you don't, there's nothing wrong with that either as long as you are eating enough protein in your daily diet.

Protein will help you maintain and build lean muscle mass. But it doesnt matter what kind of protein. I am a vegetarian and I get enough protein from beans, vegetables and soy and I only have 1 protein shake a day about 20 grams per scoop and its a vegan protein. Just eat what you're supposed to and drinking protein shakes wont matter.

I would only be taking protein after a WEIGHT training workout. Not after cardio. I eat a protein bar and a simple carb after a heavy weight training session.

Taking protein post work-out is very important for muscle recovery/regeneration.
    Think of it this way:

Eat protein post workout= build muscle
Gain muscle= burning more calories in the gym
Burn more calories= greater weight/fat loss

    Good luck!

I love when people say "take protein", like it's a steroid or something. As said before, it will not inhibit your weight loss as long as your macros/calories are in check.
If it is important to you, you will find a way.
If it's not, you will find an excuse.

I didn't feel like writing eat/drink protein and didn't think long enough to write 'get your protein in'. We all know it's not a steroid, but it IS a protein supplement and you DO take supplements.

i like how noone mentioned the most important thing
taking one protein shake after a workout will not magically net you gains/losses its what you do as a whole throughout the week that matters.
you need to check the stickies to see what your daily macros should be

    Ya, this is definitely true.
I revise my statement to exactly as it it with the amendment:

You need to make sure your macro's are appropriate for your weight loss/fitness goals. Protein is a great supplement... but that's just what it is... a SUPPLEMENT. Definitely not a replacement for adequate nutrition, nor will it get you ripped overnight even with a proper exercise program

Send me a PM if you want a hand figuring anything out! I've been there and it's always nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of and not worry about getting trolled in a forum.
