Swooshie and Ham you are killing me! I could totally imagine me lending Swoosh one of my cows to ride to work!!
Hey Everyone!
Okay, so where to start an update. I know, I finally had a baby girl calf!!!
This is one of my steers that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Poor guy.
So, the last month or so has been not so bueno around here. Lots of conflict and tension that I hope is now resolved and getting better. It caused me to have some seriously bad weeks in the gym leading up to my first meet which was yesterday. I had been unable to clean 45K for like 3 weeks. My coach just kept cheering me on. Lisa at the gym listened to me cry many times and still encouraged me to go to the meet. I am so glad I did. It as probably the most fun I have had in a long time and was an absolute amazing experience.
So the meet was the 2014 Lock and Load in Van Alstyne, Tx just north of Dallas. Hubs, the girls and I headed up there Fri since weigh in for my group was a 8am Sat morning. We had a nice trip as a family which was cool. Sat morning I was underweight at the hotel and we packed up to head to the venue. It was at "The Barn". I thought how fitting.
I met a wonderful other Master female lifter as soon as we got there. We talked about where we were from etc. She was so nice and took me under her wing when she found out this was my first meet and my coach was in England. At weigh in I declared 35/45 (first number is snatch second is CJ). I was told you could change the numbers twice but could not go down. Since I had no gotten over 43 on CJ in weeks I thought this was safe. The lady I met introduced me to her coach who was nice enough to take me to the table where the cards were for everyone and to explain how the cards worked and how to figure out about when I would be up. They let me work in with them on warm up and convinced me to up my Snatch opener.
So on Snatch I went 38,41, and picked 44 after the 41 went up smooth. I missed the 44 however. I didn't finish the second pull. I tapped and dropped. 44 would have been a PR.
When warm up rolled around for CJ I found an empty platform. Did a single at 35, one at 40, one at 43 and then nailed 45 for a double. It felt so darn good. I will tell you that your mental outlook can kill you on an Olympic Platform. And I mean kill you. Since I had missed the 44 on snatch I played CJ safe and went 45, 48, 50 and nailed all 3 lifts.
So in the end I walked out with a 41/50/91. This is 4 K below combined PRs. It qualifies me for Pan America 2015. Not that I will go, but it is a step in a goal. And a step in the right direction. I don't have vid yet. I had a camera download problem. But I bought a copy of the meet and will get it in a few weeks.
There were some amazing lifters there. A few National Champions. Some of them young. If you have ever thought about competing, DO IT!! DO IT!! You will not regret it.
How can I forget the medal we got! It is a cow doing a jerk! Very awesome!!

THanks Lori! THat little calf is as sweet as her mom!!
Yes, I am thinking of doing one in July that is in San Antonio!
Yes, only in Texas.
I was mirin his barn set up as well! It was framed in wood instead of metal like ours and had a more homey feel!
Between the meet and hubs and the kids cleaning the house for me while I milked, I had a great mother's day!
It was a really great experience. You should try a PL meet!Spoon Barbell Club

I saw this yesterday and loved it! THought I would share.
So I am back to the gym and working toward my 100K goal. My squat numbers need some work as well.
I am looking into another meet. It was really a lot of fun and I met some really cool people. So definitely worth doing again.
Yesterday I went to see an orthopedist about my hip and back. I have mentioned this before but I had a hip disease when I was young. The ball of my hip dissolved and when it regrew it grew back bigger. Hence I have to fight for hip flexibility. It also left my left leg shorter than my right. I have a reoccurring problem with my left lat/trap/teres area. About twice a year it will tighten up and I can't turn my head for a few days. Very miserable experience. Anyway, it did this in early March. Well this time, I was left with a headache. I could run my fingers up the left backside of the skull and feel the tight muscles running up my head. After having this headache for 6 weeks I could not take it any more. I went and saw a chiropractor thinking he could pot it out. Well he did pop it out and my headache went away. But he also took an xray of my back. Said xray left me with my head between my legs hyperventilating. I have this lovely s curve. Basically the equivalent of scoliosis. Where my spine curves back in my upper back is where the nerves are being pinched that causes all the tightness in my back. SO. Yesterday the doc told me it really isn't one leg that is shorter than the other. The almost 1/2" difference is all in my hip. THe bone that attaches your leg to your hip ball, well it is way shorter on my left hip than my right. So, I am going to try lifts in my shoes to help straighten things out. Other than that, it is just do the best I can. Basically stay active and don't get fat. He told me I will have to have the hip replaced, so to come back when I can't take the pain any more. THank you very much!
So onward we go in life!
I did hit a snatch double PR yesterday! Double at 40!Spoon Barbell Club

JJ,
Really proud of you, girl!! I looked at your medal and I almost got teary eyed and $hit.. (I had to add “and $hit” to maintain my manliness and not be accused of being a softy.)
Watching somebody like you, whom I initially helped, step on the platform to actually compete was a vindication for me that helping others is always the right thing to do.

Hey P! Yes, don't get fat!!
No kidding on the twins. I do wonder if when I have it replaced if it will fix the length discrepancy. Do they replace the hip ball and the scoop bone that attaches said ball to the leg bone? If so, that would fix my problem. But the lifts in the shoes are helping I think.
I was pretty damn proud of that double!
Thank you Geek. Yep, I spend a lot of time stretching and rolling.
Now you are going to make me teary eyed. Thank you for helping me Joel.
I wish I had something cool to report. About all I got is this.
I finally got an orange and white kitty. I named him Tigger and his bro Roo. Just what I needed, 2 more kittens. But they are too cute.
Lifting is going. My snatching is doing okay but my cleans are still in suckville. I can not figure out how to get them out of suckville. I know it is all in my head. And that sucks. Something will give and it will all get better I am sure. I just hope it does it soon!
I am doing a tracking competition with mmater. I am thinking of making myself a star chart for the fridge as well. We get points for tracking for the day and for me making sure I get at least 150 protein and 175 carbs. I have to remember to stay off the scale!! And trust the process. I know I am losing on 2200 cals, but don't want to make any adjustments for a week or 2. Now to come up with prizes!Last edited by jjeane; 05-22-2014 at 05:38 PM.

Sounds like another countdown to pounds down! Good for you two. I also need something to help me stay on track (hence the competition).
As for leg length you would have to talk to the surgeon and it would depend on the type of surgery need, if they are only repairing the ball part of the joint then they just cut the ball part of the femur off, insert metal/ceramic ball and put you back together again but if you have a length discrepancy you could see if they can fix at that time but not a guarantee.
Kitten is adorable! Always need barn cats on the farm and you need entertainment when lifting."That's not sweat that's your fat cells crying" anonymous
