    For this workout I want to change up the squats some. I wanted to focus on not letting my right leg compensate for my left and do more of the work. I also wanted to do some wider stance and narrower stance squats.

    Squat
    3x12x45 really focus on using both hips equally when rising. Trying not to let my right leg do all the work.
    3x20x+90 on smith- 1st 10 are wide 2nd 10 are narrow

    Happy Halloween everyone! I think Halloween is a total waste of money, but I do have two young girls who get totally excited about any holiday. So I am sure I will be throwing away a ton of candy by the end of the weekend.

    I missed Monday’s w/o because my FIL came into town and hubs got bit by a snake. Luckily he is fine.
    I woke up this am in a total funk. I was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. I really didn’t want to go workout. But I got my stuff together and went. As I was walking in I noticed I didn’t have my w/o notebook!! So I was really thinking of going home. But then I remembered my journal!! So I went and broke my cardinal rule for the gym, NEVER BRING YOUR CELL PHONE!! I don’t care if other people bring theirs, I just think of gym time as my time and you can find me later! So with the help of the ever popular iPhone I was able to bring up what I had done on last Dead day and go from there.

    When I was done a guy at the gym was telling me about SEAL style sit ups. He was telling me how hard they are. So I ventured and tried them. They weren’t that hard. So I did some extra sit ups at the end. 20 the first time and 10 the second.

    I was so glad at the end of the workout that I went. I felt so much better mentally. I felt strong again. It put my head back to - JUST GO DO IT!! I have a lot of things I need to plan for in the next couple months, breeding cows, trying to build a home, butchering many chickens, and keeping our business going. Working out helps me feel strong mentally as well as physically. When I really don’t want to go, I know I should. When I leave the gym I feel I can tackle anything.

    Hi!!

    I totally missed the 15 years with the hubs note last week. Congratulations! We just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary this summer and 15 years total of being a couple. We are lucky ladies to have found mates that we can put up with for so long (I think that is more difficult than the loving part - I could never stop loving my husband, but sometimes I think he just may drive me insane haha)

    I loved your "When I leave the gym I feel I can tackle anything" - what a wonderful feeling to have. You are right - sometimes we just need to go do it and at the end of it, you feel so much better inside and out and can face all of the other craziness in life from a much stronger and healthier perspective.

    I don't know what the SEAL style situps are - but good on you for just knocking some out with ease!

    I feel very grateful to have chosen someone I not only love but you are right get along with. Build a life together. It is nice to know I am not the only one whose hubs drives them insane on occasion.
    The sit ups were basically bend you legs with 10 inches between your butt and heels. Cross your arms and bring elbows to right below knees. I think planks work better for me for strength over sit ups any day. But he said he can do 30. I could have done 25 but didn't want to make him feel bad!

    I missed the 15 years as well. congrats. I am also in that club married 11 and together 14 - they will always drive us mental on occasion but sure don't want to know what it would be like without them around.

    Glad to hear hubby is okay after snakebite - rattlesnake? Your texas right? Scary stuff.

    Good on you to force yourself to do it - some days it is all I can do to drag my arse to the basement but once I am done I feel so much before for it.

    It has been a rough week here. Just everything that could go wrong just about has. Today is my oldest 8th birthday. I am so proud of her. The party thing though, URGH!!! And my mom is in town. So this weekend will not slow down. I am hoping next week to have some down time and make some cheese!!

    Thanks DM. She had a great birthday. I just wish they did not grow up so fast.
    Today was not a good workout for me. I got way to cold doing chores this morning. I just didn’t wear enough clothes. When I got to the gym I was feeling really nauseous and weak. Since hubs came as well, I pushed through but it was less than stellar. I did take a nap this afternoon and that helped. Well, it was more like I passed out for 2 1/2 hours.

    hahaha can totally tell I live with young children cause all I read in your last line was your going to cut the cheese LOL big thing in my house right now is farting wars (gross but having a 7 and 5 year old....and the 33 year old big kids just seems to happen)

    I LOVE napping, can't sleep in worth a dang but sure can nap so I am totally jealous about your nap. Great work to keep going while you were feeling icky.

    DM, my 5 yr olds 2 favorite words are farty and tootie. So I hear ya. But I was actually making cheese and had to go cut the curds. It is a gift for a friend for Christmas. But farting wars happen here as well. LOL!
    The nap helped tremendously. And I pulled out the fleece pants and long johns so I will not get as cold this morning. Do not want to repeat getting that cold.

    I'll tell you girl - that was a great workout for not feeling well!

    I hear you on the cold thing - I had to catch the train yesterday and didn't take a heavy coat (I was wearing a black suede blazer and thought that would be good enough) - it was SUPER cold standing out on the train platform waiting for the train with no sunshine and a cold wind. My hands were frozen and I basically just felt frozen from the inside out for hours after that. I know what you mean as far as a nap being the one thing to really help. When I do long runs in the winter time on Saturday mornings I end up taking a really hot shower, drinking a lot of coffee, and still not feeling great until I get a nap in.

    Still laughing at all of the tooty, farty, cheese cutting talk - my 2 year old won't stop saying boobie lately. And it doesn't help that I can't help but laugh when I tell him to stop, or laugh out loud when the kids pass gas. I'm a big kid too

    I finally had to ban the potty talk at the table. So then the 5 yr old would just get out of her chair and continue. But Mom, I'm not at the table. Hubs isn't a great help as he instigates a lot of it. But I suppose my kids did kind of grow up in a barn. And I do think it is pretty funny to call them a farty head back. I don't think boobie has been one here, mostly just body functions.
    I did learn my lesson on the cold and pulled out the long johns, fleece pants, and Carhartt. I was miserable. I can not imagine running in the cold MM. I would need some major heat after that!
    Today was a good workout. I was a little frustrated when I went so had some nice energy to burn. Also, during chores I got to catch a pig and carry it across the pasture. So
    Catch pig, lift pig over fence,carry pig across the pasture x1- she weights about 50lbs or so.

    As for my w/o schedule. Thank you for asking because it made me think about it some more. Basically I am sort of following the guidelines set out in New Rules of Lifting for Life. Except I don't do any cardio or his warm up. Call me lazy. I figure I put in enough miles on my feet everyday, why do cardio? I don't find it fun. And I am not looking to compete.
    But the lifting I do 3 full body workouts a week. I alternate between dead lift and squat. After those I do a leg + back, then chest + leg super set. Or I do a push + pull, then a combo move + a back or shoulder. Then planks, or some other core.
    Probably not a good plan, but I haven't come up with a better one yet.
    I have some mini goals. Get the dead lifting up. Be able to to 5 unassisted pull ups. And work on my benching.
    Basically I want to add some lean muscle, esp on the glutes and ham area and lean out some. But if I lean out a whole bunch more right now I think I will look funny since I don't have enough muscle.

    Both kiddos are sick. I don't know how I am going to get to the gym today. Or next week for that matter. The kids have the whole week off from school and there is no kid care at the gym. Hubs is busy. Going to have to get creative. Maybe I can go after dinner before they close at 8.

    But the good news is the scale is holding at 137. So down 5 lb since school started.

    Bummer about the kids being sick! Wow- the whole week off? I think my hubs would go crazy if our kids were home all next week considering with Sandy we had everyone home for several days and that led into planned teacher conference days meaning the Elementary school was closed for like 3 days. Sheesh!

    You can always just have the kids sit on the couch and count out you doing pushups and situps My non-gym days I have just been trying to get the kids active with me so that I get some activity in and have some fun with them (harder when they are sick I know!)

    hey! you're a cheesemaker in texas? do you know blue heron farm? that's an old friend christian and his wife. we were punk rock hellions back in the day. he's so great, and i hear they make awesome cheese. i havent been in texas in a number of years now, so have never tried it.

    good luck with the kids this week. i think mm has some good ideas there. and congratulations on 15 years of marriage!

    mini-goals are great! really awesome motivation. lots of little steps = big steps

    cardio is good for dropping calories into a deficit. (have a calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight)
