Jani,
The angle is perfect! That was the reason I caught the mistake.
And I agree with mmater ^^. I was going to suggest upping the weight. You can easily do 110-lb PC right now, but let's go slow first. Try at least 65-lbs next time. And make sure you pause first at the knee, per my previous input. NICE WORK!!

The weight will settle I am sure, then it is just trudging and counting cals. We went to town today and had lunch at CFA and I did not get fries. Boom! Huge for me. So sauces either.
And yes do not think that that bar is heavy. It is only 35# with the bumpers. Not that cool........yet!
Okay, will load up with 65# for Friday. Oh this is going to be fun. Elbows up and slow first pull. I am ON IT!!!
110# sounds like a lot BTW!
Thanks HIL! I don't think it will be as epic as RB's though. Will get on vid!Last edited by jjeane; 03-14-2013 at 12:51 PM.

I love that you are working on PCs - I've never done them before (really don't even have the equipment to try them out sadly) but would love to try someday.

You will get to 110# in no time; just be patient and always aim for perfection.
This is 15.y.o Emily. One of my lifters. She does 102#here. Watch how she controls the first pull from floor to launch point, then BAM!
The only difference is she receives the bar in the full squat clean position, you receive yours high (aka power clean).
To recap:
a) Deliberately controlled 1st pull, from floor to hip.
b) Explosive 2nd pull.
c) Blindingly fast 3rd pull. So fast that the world feels like it stopped.
Do some pauses at the knee first, as previously mentioned. Then once you are comfortable go ahead and remove the hesitation and complete the first pull.
Good luck!
BTW, this is what I mean by pausing at the knee from the floor. (Just ignore the jerks and the fact that I also receive the bar low, like Emily.)

Jani,
GREAT WORK! I think you are ready for the next level of training. The question is are you ready for the next evolution?
When we want to learn something new – riding a bike, swimming, cooking, driving, lifting, etc… - we start off with a huge task ahead of us. And as we try to learn, we face many problems. Big problems. And in order to get good at that ‘something’ we want to learn, one of the things we do is solve the big problems and hopefully make them smaller problems, and eventually make the problems go away . Another thing we do to get good at something is practice…and practice… and practice some more.
Some activities require zero skills, like boiling pot of water. Some activities require a much higher level of skills, like flying a remote control toy helicopter. Olympic Weightlifting is one of those activities that require skills, and commitment, and lots of practice.. The sport also requires courage…Jumping under a heavy dynamic load is scary.
A good analogy I use is the “crawl, walk, run method.” First we learn how to crawl, then we have to learn how to walk if we ever expect to run. What’s great about our journey to continuous improvement is that as we get good at something, we will always find something else to improve upon. Such is life. Weightlifting is a microcosm of real life. There is always room for improvement as we get better at it.
You have met the expectations of this ‘crawl phase.’ Congratulations. Let me know if you are ready to start the ‘walk phase’ and I’d be glad to continue with your journey.
The reason for this lengthy post is I don’t want you to think I’m nitpicky, because I will appear as one if you expect to keep progressing.
Excellent progress you’ve made!! Bodyweight clean and jerk in a year! You think I’m kidding? This above all..

Wow. For real? Yes, I want to run. I really enjoy it. Even after I was sucking wind on the deads today, I kept thinking as soon as I get my wind back I can do the PC drills. I look forward to them.
So yes, I would love to continue the journey.
How do I thank and repay you Joel?Spoon Barbell Club

Wow, so much going on here! I wish I could see your vids but the phone did doesn't show them. But I gather from what Joel and everyone else is saying you are progressing nicely. Very happy for you and congrats on the 139 too. I remember being very happy to leave the 140's last yr too

man, lots of good stuff going on in here. Love your enthusiasm for the oly lifting. I will have to live vicariously through you for the next few weeks until I can devote more time to it (instead of running for a PT test, blah). Anywho, Joel sounds like (looks like) he knows what he is doing. I notice he didn't mention it in his lengthy post, and forgive me if I am overstepping my bounds, but even that 65 looked easy. You can tell you are still "muscling it up." I say this, because you look like me, and my coach gets on my butt about it all the time. It is such a unique skill set, and I am sure, that is why you - like me - are soo infatuated with the sport. I'm excited to follow along with you in this. Great work.
