Maybe this has been answered before but I'm not really sure how to word it sufficiently enough for a search bar. I'm currently 20 years old 5'8 197 pounds at 27% body fat. I played running back in HS and have an opportunity to play in a men's tackle league and I would like to get back to running back size. I'm not really sure how to eat. In HS I was a lean 180. I want to be lean like I was but continue to add strength. To lose weight I need a calorie deficit but to add muscle you need calories so I'm conflicted between the two to reach my goals. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Calculate your bf%, idk what kind of back you were (speed, power, etc.). Focus on getting your bf% below 15%, preferably 10-13, then begin lean bulking. Or if you are good with more size, then dont worry about cutting your bf and start a lean bulk. If you havent worked out in a while you will see some strength gains either way, just from your body getting used to it again
