2 problems with banning guns in the US.

1. We have a third world festering chithole of a country to the South of us, and I understand that some of the guns in Mexico are purchased legally in the US and smuggled across, it would still create a black market for guns coming back to the US; and since it would be a crime to purchase these guns, I would guarantee it would be mostly criminals buying them.

2. If you strip the guns from responsible owners, you are now promoting the most dangerous people in the country into the most powerful. Those guns aren't leaving the ghettos, so instead of kid flashmobs beating the **** out of people, with minimal organization any group of gang members could run a train on any city, until the cops show up (I just fukking laughed at the thought of the US government disarming police officers.)

So which political party is going to commit political suicide by sending the National Guard into the ghettos to round up the guns? Morning headline: "President sends National Guard into Chicago's south side for door to door weapon removal, grizzly shootouts commence. brb US looks like Syria in some places."


I live in a peaceful state with minimal racial and socio-economic tension so will never carry, but if I lived in a big city I would probably carry if it was legal.

No i think banning guns or imposing stricter regulations regarding purchase of guns would decrease the amount of guns in circulation. Like any other modern western society where guns are banned, they become harder to acquire for criminals, thus lowering the rate of gun-crime. As stated above the majority of guns used in crimes are legally purchased.

Couldn't some of the money used in the fight against gun-crime be redistributed to border control? I understand the point you're making, but even with a black market in Mexico, acquiring said illegal guns would still be a lot harder for your standard gang-banger who can currently get his hands on one quite easily.

I obviously wouldn't advise the disarmament of police or security personnel. In my eyes, tougher regulations are needed rather than an all out ban, as the cat may be out of the bag so to speak on an all out ban on guns.

I live on the Southside of Chicago and honestly at times feel that I would like to carry, but then think, if someone pulls a gun on me (again) trying to rob me of the $20 or so I had on me, would it be worth pulling a gun of my own and possibly dying in the ensuing firefight?

I didn't suggest people were making their own guns. People are purchasing guns legally for family members and friends etc who then use these guns to commit crimes. Thus rendering them illegally owned and in illegal circulation. This is how the majority of "illegal" guns come into circulation. If purchasing them legally were more difficult then, it would make acquiring them for illegal purposes harder.
