What's your height and wingspan? I have short arms. My wingspan is 6'4" (76 inches).
Wingspan (aka armspan) is the distance from fingertip to fingertip of the outstretched arms. A great wingspan is a mark of dominance, masculinity, and greatly contributes to athleticism and overall weight and size.
This is Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. It depicts a height equal to armspan as the ideal for a male of about 5'5".


However, for us taller men, having a long armspan is natural, due to our broader shoulders and larger hands. In fact, the average armspan is 6'0", while the average height is 5'10". NBA players tend to have armspans about 6-10 inches greater than their heights, as do many linemen and other big athletes. It is a mark of dominance.

So, what's your height and wingspan? (Wingspan can easily be measured vertically on a wall, on the floor with one hand touching a wall, etc.)

If Michael Jordan were to grow into his wingspan, he'd be 7+ feet tall. He's under 6'5" though, and his robust build also makes him an excellent athlete. (There is a strong correlation between being black and having a large wingspan, just to share.)

Figures. So am I. Scandinavians tend toward narrow shoulders and less lengthy frames. (This is, of course, in relation to height. Scandinavians are also very tall.)

not the least bit scientific but whatever lol. I have travelled through a lot of, and lived in africa for a little while. proportions are definitely different compared to here in NZ. People here look like t-rex's in comparison lol

Virtually every piece of data from the NBA and NFL draft, comparing white and black players, agrees with this. To give an extreme example, white Shawn Bradley is 7'6" with a 7'6" wingspan. Black Manute Bol is 7'7" with an 8'6" armspan.
Asians also tend to have shorter appendages.

Here are some names. To give you perspective, wingspan:height differentials like these are virtually nonexistent in white athletes.

Here is a completely random black model; notice that the elbows extend below the bellybutton, the broad shoulders, and the long forearms. This 6'0" model probably has a wingspan of about 6'8".


Here is a random white model. Notice the elbows well above the bellybutton, the short forearms... 6'0" height, probably a 6'0" wingspan.

And worth mentioning: NFL arm length measurements. It is insane how much longer the arms of black players are than those of white players of the same height. The difference is usually 2"+ per arm.

My standing reach is 8'3". Not bad; not good. Not gonna get scouted for it (luckily, I've never played any sports... I look at wingspan as a contributor to aestheticism). My hands are 8 inches long.

One thing though, consider the torso length differences between those two pictures. Whites seem to tend to have longer torsos in my experience. I have a very long torso. That white model seems to have relatively short upper arms as well, but I certainly do see what you're saying.

Isn't this why white people and asians tend to be better swimmers in general? And why they're generally also bad sprinters?
