I'm not talking resting metobolic rate but the calorie intake an average male needs daily to maintain his weight. MY RMR is like 2000 cals so I'm on a 1500 cutting diet, but is this too low?

I believe its actually around 2500. If you're active I really don't think its necessary for you to cut that many calories. As long as you stay somewhere around that number you'll still be cutting down since the more muscle you build the more calories you'll burn. Just eat healthy, keep training hard and you'll be good broskie.
