A real question, do you think you'll accurately track calories and worry about exact surpluses/deficits for the rest of your life? If not, then imo, you should learn your body enough to start to make adjustments without having to nail down perfect little numbers. It'll take a while and it is constantly a learning process, but you gotta start somewhere.
Not saying tracking calories and exact surpluses/deficits don't work and aren't great tools, but I'm not sure they are for everyone or are needed by everyone.

I don't mind tracking or deficits/surpluses, but I don't know if it is sustainable long term. I think they are important for very time-specific goals(such as a competition), but is it needed for just a good physique? I don't think so. Plus with energy variance and whatever makes your body grow non-linearly - sometimes a less rigid surplus can actually be beneficial.

Got fitted about 3-4 months ago for my brother's wedding (Saturday). He had me rush up to the place today to see if it fit because a couple of the jackets had to be sent back because they were too small. Considering I was 15lbs lighter then, I figured the jacket was going back. Had to send the pants back too though. So far I'm winning the fat contest amongst the groomsmen.
