What state are you in?
I'm mirin' the career path. I think it's ultra competitive in CA because there's only 5 schools. I'm looking into saving my money until 2017 and getting in out of state if I can.
We'll make it brah, we will one day. I want on that CEO 200k salary.
Starting my first of 3 nights tonight, not prepared at all. Need to move closer to work... 55 mile drive each way isn't it, man.

How many months in advance did you guys really started to study to pass nclex. Also how did you guys study was it mostly going over all the literature or did you do a focus study on particular areas.
Also does anyone have any nclex prep questions to help me get a feel of the questions are structured.#IPhone crew#

I guess you would have to read the rep message... but uh, it may or may not have been suggested that oral sex may be given to me in a dirty utility room (jokingly), an issue regarding contaminated scrubs may or may not have been mentioned... naturally, I thought in a hypothetical situation such as receiving oral sex in a hospital it may or may not be worthwhile to use chloroprep on said penis (joking), and in a said hypothetical situation I would probably prefer my penis be worked in a circular motion (really I justed wanted to say ''tip")
now pls, can we get some ****ing ****** or Haldol up in this bitch

Hey guys i'm having an issue with my employer. For the past several months myself and many of my fellow nurses have been forced to take days off due to low census. These forced days have depleted our PTO (time off) banks. currently i only have 15 hours of time off left, where at this time of year I should have 100+ hours. This means that I cannot plan any vacation unles i'm willing to take the vacation without pay. Also If I have an emergency I will also have to take that time without pay since I have only few hours of PTO time left.
Myself and a few other nurses have been debating if this practice is even legal? can an employer force a nurse to take shift off due to low census?"Radiant as the sun, Cool as the moon"

Lol, even in a union, yes. They can't staff a unit with no patients just so your paycheck looks pretty. Money doesn't grow on trees and productivity is what drives how what the unit can spend on staffing. Welcome the the real world.
Not trying to be a bitch but it's time to find a new job or pick up per diem elsewhere on the side. What's Spicy Training For?? LIFE MOTHER F-ER!

This happens everywhere... You would be lucky if you get floated to other departmemts if your unit is closed. If not, they take out PTO hours and convert it to $$ for you to have your biweekly/weekly pay.
Suggestion, be like me and some nurses. Go have a second hosp, and make that part time/P.R.N, that way you can get to schedule some of your off days on the second hospital. And if you get cancelled on your full tme, call the second hospital if they need a nurse. If you're lucky you have work, if not, PTO hours deduction time.

yes... I've actually been to SD a few times... dat balboa park bruh... um I was considering going to dat dere mesa college because my GF (at the time) got accepted into that Kaplan nursing school right around the corner from it...
But I had already been an esteemed program and im like... uhm... theres nothing for me down there... I did briefly consider physical therapist though
Srsly, what is Union rep going to do, slam on the breaks on the 5 at 4pm on a Friday and create business?
.... (what I think happens if a union rep gets contacted)....
Geez if he was part of a union you don't know what type of terms have been set forth or bargaining has gone on/is going on with the hospital or is an issue etc etc...

I think some areas of cali also have pretty strong anesthesia organization. One of my coworkers was looking at it and she was telling me that not only are there very few schools, but in my county in particular they have an "agreement" to not train CRNAs so finding clinical hours would be impossible. Those anesthesia guys know how to protect their ground...
I'm feelin biotchy as hell but i made it bro... didnt bite a single persons head off.
you have no idea. One of them is even kind of "sensitive" and "bitchy" like a chic. I dont get it.
Honestly, I only did questions for a couple weeks before. I was fortunate though that my professors set up every singe exam with NCLEX style questions so the testing style wasnt new. I figure too.... at the point when you've graduated answering that style of question should be second nature and you either will know the info or you won't so actually studying content is useless (IMO.) If your school didn't serve you well with teaching you how to take this style of test I would look at NCLEX reviews. One of my nursing school professors tours the country doing them and pretends like shes on vacation all year round.... kind of a cool life.
Exactly. Census in my unit right now is INCREDIBLY low and I am per diem... so no PTO. When I think I might get cancelled, time to start calling other satellite hospitals or offering myself up to other units. Or, offer to be cancelled ahead of time so you know you will be so you can start the hustle. And its even better when the other units are offering incentive.
Eek, Kaplan. Have never seen a nursing student from there... Are they one of those places that is still handing out ADNs?
SD, though, best part of cali.
But for reals, Even Kaiser wont keep the unit that overstaffed. What's Spicy Training For?? LIFE MOTHER F-ER!

Uhhh, nor*cal (the real norcal, north of the bay at least) is the best part of cali... brb napa valley, brb Yosemite/sierra Nevadas, brb mt. Shasta... brb pristine wilderness, brb lake Shasta houseboating, brb lake Oroville houseboating, brb salmon running free and wild, brb CHICO STATE son!!!....There was too much concrete and traffic in SD for my taste...however I digress...
I am not sure about Kaplan because my ex ended up going to Denver somewhere to a private school some years later (her dad wouldn't pay for Kaplan), I think it was a BSN program? I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info guys, I did some researching on allnurses, pretty much everybody suggested Kaplan and sauders as prep guides for nclex. Gonna try these along with a rationale book. I'm gonna seriously start studying 2 months before test date, covering all the content in Sanders then Kaplan question anymore suggestions would be nice. I finish my BSN this semester so I'm just preparing myself.

Thanks!
I decided to pay my $$ to save myself a seat. I've decided to go ahead and do it. If I hate it, then I'll deal with it then. So for now, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.
Guess I can officially call myself a med student. Time to milk it and use it on sloots

Oh yup. Hope I can get a job here. Was it difficult for you?
My preceptor for my leadership clinical seems to like me. She's a nursing manager on a PCU floor and is going to introduce me to the nurse residency manager
And then I have yet to start my externship at the other hospital... things are looking up for the moment. We'll see how this sem pans out.
