RN Brah checking in.
First shift as an RN tonight starting at 2300 (3 hours from now). Wasn't nervous, but it's starting to sink in.

Pretty much just how'd you expect. Went over the syllabus for an hour and 1/2, then went straight into 5 hours of notes. Have 6 chapters assigned by the end of the week, all need to have completed study guides, first exam is on the 3rd week. Reading about head to toe assessments atm.
How do you brahs read all this stuff, actually read the whole chapter? Skim it all? Read the first sentence/last sentence technique?Deadlift: 435

How'd it go, bby girl? I got absolutely raped last night with admissions. First night I wasn't able to take a lunch break.
Got through nursing school by only reading the first and last sentences of each chapter crew.

Ok, so I got the phone call for an interview to an ICU. I put in an app for a night shift since that was all that was available. The manager still asked what shift I was interested in. Did I goof by saying that I wouldn't mind taking a day shift if they had any?Last edited by guyman123; 08-18-2015 at 01:27 PM.

Started orientation and its been kinda rough transitioning from the hospital I used to work at and did clinicals at. I'm used to Mckesson and liked it. The hospital I'm at now uses an outdated system. I'm having trouble with the charting especially admissions. Being on the floor is awesome though I don't feel overwhelmed. Feel like my precepting experiencing and working as an aide really helped ease the transition. This hospital is definitely more laid back than the old hospital I worked at. The residents all seem pretty cool and joke around with the nurses. I like my coworkers too. Seems like I picked the right place.

Of course a CVICU opening becomes available right after I receive an interview for the MSICU.
Last time I applied, I emailed the manager and she said all her positions were taken up. Do I e-mail her again and say "Hey, uh, I know I e-mailed you last time, but I'm still interested" or some chit?
UPDATE: OMGOSH YAAAAS!!!! Recruitment just called me and said that the MSICU I applied for was going to be specialized into a CVICU! Win/win! Wish me luck!Last edited by guyman123; 08-19-2015 at 07:06 AM.

I stepped out of class yesterday to use the restroom. When I opened the door back to the classroom, a wave of vagina hit my nostrils. Srsly, very noticeable and could not unsmell it for the remainder of class. Not complaining and not trying to offend anyone, I realize that's the outcome when in a room with 40+girls but das it mane

Sup brahs. Passed my CNA exam on monday, ready to wipe some serious arse.
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get into a position of my choice, so I'll ask everyone's opinion:
Emergency Service
Nursing Float
Med/surg 1
In order of preference. I'd really like to do emergency service because you have constant patient rotation, get to see some intradesting stuff, have a couple friends who work in the ER and they like it a lot, etc.
Nursing float would be great in getting to work almost everywhere, but it would kind of suck to not be able to get used to it. I imagine walking into work every day is like "Ah fuk, am I gonna get psychiatric or something ez today?"
Med/surg of course, the baseline for all nursing. Father worked on a med/surg floor and seemed to enjoy it about as much as a nurse can.

Just got back from the interview. It's within the same hospital system I work at, just a different location. It is a 36-bed MSICU divided among two floors. The director, who was very nice, gave me a tour of both floors and was the one who interviewed me. Very spacious with a gorgeous view of I-95. I'll be working night shift again, if I get hired, so I'll be mirin dat dere sunrise every morning. It'll be even better when fall starts coming around. Sik as chit of this heat. We made great conversation before the interview. Found out that they currently do not have an intensivist available for the unit. As for the interview, it could've gone better. The first thing I emphasized was that I was ready to learn more. My answers were very short and I got tripped up by a few trick questions that I had to BS really hard. There was one question that I couldn't even respond to and asked if we could return to it later. We never did. I did feel as if the questions I asked afterwards made up for it. She kindly offered me a peer interview next week - the next phase of the interview process, so hopefully that means she's still interested in hiring me. There are three open positions available. Crossing my fingers, brahs. Still waiting on the CVICU manager to offer me an interview, but I don't see it happening.
You got this, brah.
Can I wing your mum?
I was a float tech. The only thing I hated was having to introduce myself every time I went onto a floor, but there were some floors that I was assigned to frequently and everyone eventually knew who I was. I also got paid $5 more than a tech who was hired for one floor. I know you want to become a PA, but if you eventually change your mind and become an RN, floating will help you with your networking and give you a wider array of selections to choose from. That's how I landed my current job.
Also, I never understood it until I became a floor RN, but being a float keeps you out of floor politics/drama, which is what I need to learn how to do next time.
UPDATE: Okay, brahs. The director still hasn't called back with what time my peer interview was going to be, although she said she'd let me know either today or Monday. I'm getting anxious as fuk. Helppppppppp
UPDATE 2: She called me back. Peer interview Wednesday at 2200! Things are looking up again. This chit is an emotional roller coaster.
When your friend gets sick of hearing about how anxious you are.Last edited by guyman123; 08-21-2015 at 02:44 PM.
