Competition Bodybuilders with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)

Do you know of any competition bodybuilders who have died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ("ALS" or "Lou Gehrig’s disease")?

Recent scientific studies have suggested that high-level athletes have an increased risk of developing ALS. The reasons for this risk are still unknown.

The Biological Psychiatry Laboratory at McLean Hospital is researching whether this finding extends to competitive bodybuilders.

If you know of any competition bodybuilders who have died from ALS at any time over the last 60 years, please contact Erin or Alison at alsresearch@mclean.harvard.edu or at 617-855-2937. You do not need to identify yourself in your email or phone call.

If you choose to contact us about a competition bodybuilder who has died of ALS, please include any publicly available information about their death that you know of (for example, an obituary or newspaper article available on the Internet). Please feel free to contact us even if you do not have any documentation of their death.

All responses to this ad, whether made via email or telephone, will be confidential. Due to confidentiality, please do not reply via a comment on this post.
