I lol'ed at first but the truth is

MIND OVER MATTER.

this is all I have to say. I have ADD so **** sitting there forever.

my artist tells me he can tell I am done focusing around the 3 hour mark he always used to ask if its starting to hurt or something and I just tell him no I am just bored lol.

I dunno how I could sit there for 8 hours specially if I am facing a certain way in his booth because I cant see the tv so I am just staring at the same **** on his wall for hours.

is it disrespectful to bring headphones or be ****in around on ur phone while getting tatted? i dunno if the artist wants to shoot the **** while he inks or just left to do his thing

never once brought headphones but have seen pictures of lots of people doing it and my older brother listens to music every time he gets ink. I will fuark around on my phone a few times just responding to texts or emails or check ******** real quick. Usually just shoot the **** with my artist but there is def periods of time where nothing at all is said so dont see the problem with having in headphones. Idk though always seems like me and my artist are "friends" when I am getting tattooed have them on my ******** and we talk about each others family other work is he doing current events etc...and he is always offering me lunch but I always eat before I get there, offer each other something from the gas station if one of us is going or someone in the shop is, hell I bought my artist stamps one time because I was running to the post office lol, he'll stop some times and tell me to look at the tv to see some **** he finds interesting or whatever...he's always blasting music in his booth also.

I feel like you should have conversation with the person putting something permanent on you and also leads to a better relationship as far as getting appointments/discounts and such I feel and makes for a better experience.

This. Dude didn't say much when he was inking me and i didn't mind at all, was on my phone and talked a few minutes when i sat 4 hours. He liked it, he said i was one of the few that could talk when needed and sit still the whole time lol.

Make sure your artist has a bottle of lidocaine so if you start tapping out, you dont have to quit. Just spray it thoroughly, wrap it up, and take a 10 minute break. When you come back it will be numb and you can continue without any pain. It's kind of cheating but after 7 hours in the chair I was getting tender and didn't mind at all..

everyone is different though. Usually around the 4 hour mark I start contemplating tapping out lol.

Think it all comes down to the person, how rough the artist is and where the tattoo is being placed.

But have seen other people sit for 5+ hours no problem. My brother who is a baby when it comes to pain did back to back 6 hour sessions on his arm.

My buddy did 4 hours on his stomach no problem yet I have seen people go 5 minutes and bust into tears and have to stop.

Solid advice, will consider if I think ive had enough.

My artist and I are pretty good friends so we usually chat the whole time and he's always got his music going too. Depends on the artist I guess.

So I was talking to people around here with full sleeve tattoos. They said its hard for them to sit for 4-5 hours much less 8 hours like I scheduled for my 1st appointment. Did I dun goof scheduling 8 hours for my 1st tat?

When I went in for my first session with Robert I only ended up getting tattooed for 5-6 hours, a good hour was spent discussing the design, making minor changes to the sketch so it flowed better with my arm, tracing out the outline, then transferring the outline onto my arm and working on placement. Also, every hour or so he'll usually take a break to stretch or grab a bite to eat. I was nervous as hell when I was there because it was my first tattoo and like you, alot of my friends said it would be far worse then it actually was. The only painful part was when he was shading around the armpit, but aside from that it wasn't to bad at all. I'll be flying back to Vegas in April for my second session, then probably again in July for EDC and to finish off my sleeve. Will post pics once its done peeling.
