ndmike - those 35s are older. I have a pair of unmilled 35s/25s/etc. It's hard to say when they are from, but could be 50s/60s perhaps even 40s. Do they have lathe marks on them - ie concentric rings on the back. Or do they just have the impression from the sand from the molding process?
Also, those 50lb Jackson plates look absolutely sick on your machines. Nice score!()---() York Barbell Club #22 ()---()

Spinlock, when were the 35 lathed? When did York stop lathing? I'm assuming that Jackson did the same, or did he mill as York did later? I'm assuming as well that York started milling in the late 60's or early 70's.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I do not see any lathe marks on the back of the plates. The fronts have some funky yellow paint, what would be the best way to remove that without harming the plate? It looks like it is already flaking off pretty badly, so removing it should not be too difficult.
I got really lucky on the Jacksons. I could see just enough in the background of a craigslist ad to identify them. I have actually gotten pretty decent and spotting obscure stuff in the background of photos. I almost did not get them as I had to travel a lot and buy all 2000lbs just to be able to scoop these up. Now that the trip is over I am glad I did.

I use a citric based paint remover to remove paint from old plates. Get it at the hardware store. Just kind of smear it on the plates and wait an hour or so then rinse it off with water and the old paint comes off with it off.

The 35s and smaller plates were lathe turned at least as early as the 30s. My '38 set has lathe turned plates. My 40s set also has lathe turned plates. I know that by at least the 1960s they were starting to use the milling method because I have some milled 35s and 45s that I know were from the 60s. But I don't know precisely when they started to mill. I would guess early-mid 60s. Probably coincided with when they stopped manufacturing the deep dish 45s and started on the newer skinny design. Those have always had milled, never lathed, backs.

Posted this in Craigs thread as well...
Old gym machines in NW GA as well as possible DEEP DISH plates. When I asked the seller to send more pics he just told me to look at the ad. Too far for me to just go look.

3 hrs plus for me... some money to be made there or scoring some nice deep dishes. I just can't get away from home right now and my funds are tied up in some other equipment at the moment.
I was thinking Paramount or maybe York's... on the barbell the inside plates look like they might have 4 spokes.[II]---[II] Equipment Crew #49 [II]---[II]

It's hard to tell from the photos, but at least the 45lb plates are NOT York (at least the ones that are visible). The plates in the photos only have 3 spokes. York DD plates have 4 spokes. They could be Paramount. I believe those have only 3 spokes. But they are more of a West Coast plate. But you never know. Still look like cool vintage plates.

Yes, Zuverman and little Zuverman are just up the road. Rick, the gym owner, who has posted on bb.com, has been to my place a few times for some equipment, and his wife, Tammy, went to my high school.

That last big globe is from my friend Frank Ciavattone. Many might know of Frank, 300 world records, lifted Dinnie Stones, etc. The bell weighs 267 lbs. each globe is 130, and the handle is 7 lbs.
For those that dont know Frank, here's some links. Nicest guy I ever met. Drug free for life, battles cancer every few years, a legend of a guy...
