Need some TLC which will I will do in due course of time . But for now they seem to fit the bar very well . So they will stay in the gym. Not sure the lip is 1.35" but very easy to carry them with your fingers.
Lip is not as deep as Yorks but very good.

Congrats! Out of all the vintage plates I have owned I think these were actually my favorites (more so than York DD's). Just a simple, bad@ass looking deep dish design, even though they were not incredibly accurate/precise. Think I got up to three pairs of 45's at one point, would be neat to source a big enough set to outfit a home gym.

I drove a couple hours today to look at some bars hoping to find what I thought was an OB84 in a picture. There were no Ivanko bars but I did find two straight Yorks so I don't feel like the trip was not wasted. Also, the seller had some Hoffman plates and these. I already have some Hoffmans so I left them and got these because I think the USA looks cool. Anyone know what they are? They are cast.

looks like i "missed" this thread .Thanks. Damn 3 pairs. if you held on to those 3 pairs and sure you could have outfitted with a set/sets by now.
I sure have "enough" York DD sets.
What didn't have good tolerances? The OB84? What was off on yours?[M]===[6]βͺ Mech6 Crew #35 βͺ[M]===[6]

Hey everyone, I'm new here, and I'd like some advice about collecting vintage weight plates.
I have to buy some new plates for my dumbbells asap, and I have decided that from now on, I will only buy vintage ones so I can gradually build a collection.
The end goal is to end up with a complete vintage set from a single manufacturer.
What I'm having trouble with is picking which manufacturer to collect.
Ideally, I would like to concentrate on a manufacturer that was quite prolific, so I can find plates easily and inexpensively - as old as possible, but not necessarily rare is my goal.
I have been searching Craigslist for about a month now, but I don't really know what I'm looking at to be honest. I want to buy right the first time. I know some of you guys buy large lots of plates and trade/flip the ones you don't need, but I live in an apartment, and I just don't have the room to store stuff I'm not using.
I have done quite a lot of searching online, but it seems this thread is the main source of information on this topic.
Could I get some suggestions to point me in the right direction?

I have been - I'm currently on page 56.
I think I'm gravitating towards dimpled Billards for my standard plates. Looks like they are from the 50's but still pretty common and inexpensive.
I have a Play it Again Sports quite near me. I'm hoping to swing by at some point soon and see what they have. I can definitely see this turning into an addiction.

Post some pics.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Cracks in York plates
First time posting here. Thanks for the wealth of info provided by all of you.
Question, I recently purchased some York 45 lb plates (most likely from the 80βs or 90βs). After 3 or 4 deadlifting sessions, I noticed after oiling all of the plates today, that a few of them have some very minor cracks, hairline really for the most part.
Is it possible that I caused these from such few Deadlift sessions (I do have a platform) or is it likely they were there already and I just didnβt notice when i bought them (as I really didnβt inspect them that closely)
Most importantly though, should i not use them for further deadlifting (donβt want to destroy them if the cracks are going to get worse) and just use them to squat and bench. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

There is a York thread on the forum you might want to check out...
The cracks likely were pre-existing. You should move them to something with less force (leg press machine, bench press, squats). They should be fine. If you can, post pics. You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

My friend Reuben (RIP) who was THEE Milo Authority (wrote the book on Milo.. Literally) said this about "value" and its perfect.
"Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it".
In other words, there is no set value (like Baseball cards, etc). I have a few Milo's kicking around, I paid 1K each for mine years ago.
These days, the collecting seemed to slow a bit. Im actually going to try to sell a couple of mine, house downsizing, etc. Share the Milo pics here if you can...~Dave
