After my failed efforts at searching on this forum and elsewhere, I've not been able to find a close picture of DP olympic bars that were sold with the sets from the 70s and 80s.
I know that DP olympic weights were a nice knock-off of York during that time. I'm wondering if the bars were of similar quality, as well. The reason I'm asking is that I'm going out on a run tomorrow to pick up about a quarter ton of 80s York and similar 80's DP olympic plates. One of my stops is going to have a bar that the guy will want to sell me, and I want to know what I'm looking at. I'm solid on what the plates look like, but the DP bars are a mystery to me.
Any pics close enough to be able to show distinguishing characteristics of the bars would be very helpful in my quest.Lift long and prosper.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

A story about Lurie standard plates.
He sort of shrugged his shoulders and sighed before explaining that he was one of the first in the barbell business to import plates from India and “maybe the material they’re using for the cast has some impurities in it” which made it difficult to drill? “Difficult to drill? I destroyed three bits and its gonna cost me half a week’s pay to replace them! Impurities? There must be more junk thrown into the cast iron mold than actual iron!”

Thanks. Found it in your post and Morebarbell's post in the kilogram thread, just in time.
Picked up the following York plates this weekend: 6 45#, 2 25#, 2 10#, and 2 5#.

Picked up the following DP plates, as well: 2 20 kg, 2 10 kg, 2 5 kg, 2 2.5 kg, and 2 1.25 kg. Didn't buy the bar. Didn't match the description or the photos. Thank you.Last edited by KeithTheSnake; 12-07-2014 at 04:47 PM.

Thanks Guys, I have a big Dodge Ram pickup so this was nothing for it
I've always gotten a kick out of these plates so its neat to have so many now since you dont seem to see them pop up too often. I have 2x45 in my collection already so this will be a nice addition.
I counted the new plates, I had misjudged how many I bought originally. I get lightheaded carrying all this stuff lol: 10x45, 6x35, 6x25, 8x10, 11x5, 8x2.5
