i pretty much only have luck with 5/10 girls and below. By 5/10 I mean pretty much girls that have at least not yet become whales (by luck) but do nothing to improve their appearance (gym, style) and have no real ambitions/personality.

I on the other hand am always trying to improve my appearance and I am a relatively (academically) successful and have ambitions (beginning my first year of law school in a couple weeks) but thus far it seems that girls that are at least 5/10 and on my level in intelligence/accomplishments/ambitions don't really have much interest in my type.

Should I just accept I have to date whales that at least have character/intelligence or 5s that have nothing going for them?

I live up in Seattle. Sometimes I think my lack of success has something to do with the culture up here where people are generally pretty cold towards each other and not open to talking with strangers. People that are familiar with the area call it the "seattle chill." Basically unless you have a legit reason for talking to a woman or are somehow connected to her social circle (or you aren't at least a 8/10+) you are labeled a creeper if you try to push anything besides small talk.

Also...I've had braces for the last 3 years (hence the lack of a smile) but I don't really know if that is a factor at all since I was just as unsuccessful before.

i think these "try smiling" posts are dumb as hell, it basically means you don't like some things about the guy's face...a relaxed face pic is the best indicator of looks since that is how you're looking most the time.

I think that the hat with a buttoned up polo is a pretty goofy look and probably turns off a lot of women. I would just ditch the hat altogether, or at least only wear it when its appropriate.
