I've been destroying fools in my sector solo mode, hopefully my angus will not get wrecked by everybody else when they get sick of it.
Is it possible to take on an alliance of 2-3 people of the same level and rape them savagely? do most people maintain an army of 200+? at lvl 14?

There are plenty of sub alliances for you to start out in..
You can't join an alliance until like lvl6.
so just start out doing quests, and get on the forum to see all open alliance spots and join!
