I am a few weeks away from starting a new program which from what I can tell is a tamed down virsion of Westside Barbell program. It has 2 days for squats, deads and bench each week, one heavy day one dynamic(light) day. but in the program, deadlifts and squats are done on the same day. I am wondering whether I should do deadlifts first or squats first, or should I alternate from week to week?
Any advice is appreciated.

Well on Westside, only one of the movements are performed each week, so one week you could be deadlifting then the next it would be the squat. You could always do it like that and I personally would recommend it like that.
I have done deadlifts and squats on the same day and the rest of my workout suffered from it.
It's up to you really, if you feel like you could squat and deadlift on the same day and still complete the rest of your workout with the same intensity then go for it.

I think squatting and dead lifting on the same day is fine. DO squat first always though because deadlifts hits the lower back and its a bitch to stabilize a squat with all front core, I did deadlift before squats once and noticed i couldn't get as low.
The one thing i;ve noticed about doing them on the same day, while I lift two plates on both lifts and have hit max 3 on both(I try to keep these two the same weight, but have recently dropped teh deradlifts ten lbs less), deadlifts always feels tougher-, like a lot more willpower involved in pulling the weight there then when pushing up the squat. What do you mean you're hanging out with your girlfriend? You said you;d come to the gym with me. You're so gay bro.

I'm running 5/3/1 but I squat on my deadlift day and deadlift on my squat days. I just always do the main lift first and just do the other as an assistance and do not go near as heavy. So on deadlift days I will deadlift then right after I will do squats and it has worked good for me and while I know of westside I have never ran or even know how its setup so take what I said with a grain of salt.

Funny, I always deadlift first then squat after. i wear no belt on deads, then belt on heavy squats. Really only one of these should be done very heavy/week imo or you tire out eventually, so if you love your squats by all means do them first like everyone else has suggested.

Bench 355
Squat 471
Deads 635
BB Curl 146
Rows 285
Press 202

depends on what you are trying hit harder OP, quads or hams/glutes. I have been switching around my leg days routines for the past month or so and have found that deads, especially sumo style ,take a lot out of your posterior chain. if your trying to target hams, I would start with deadlifts and then follow up with front squats. if your trying to just hit your entire legs hard, I would start with back squats then do sumo's or romanians. IMO deads take way more effort than squats even at my measley stats ( 315s/370d)
My own way
