the way to determine if you can by something with foodstamps is the label on it that has calorie info etc. If that label is titled 'nutrition information' you may purchase the item with food stamps. If that label says 'supplement information' it cannot be purchased with foodstamps. I have not seen a protein powder that has a nutrition label. All I have seen are supplement labels.

Its the same reason food stamps will buy red bull but not 5 hour energy.

Btw my source for this is an informational training class my company required me to take as the manager of a retail store that accepts ebt/snap benefits.
