Hey Lori
Looking great!
I do think, though, that you are ignoring the signals your body is giving you to deload - falling back to an 8x8 isn't really a 'break'!!! Look at your journal - when did you last take a true break?
Sorry, putting mom voice away now.....

Hi CC! This is about my 9th week since my last deload and I've had weeks where I've had 3-4 days off in a row And I've only been lifting 3 times a week
But I was thinking the same thing except that TOM always interferes with my workouts. Looking back at my past workout schedules, every so often PMS is really bad and I mistake the weakness/tiredness as needing to deload and then tom gets here and I'm back to normal and think why am I deloading? lol!
Now that I'm on BC I can somewhat know when to expect it (except it comes and goes at random times during the same two weeks) and this is the week where I know TOM is coming any day now. Sometimes I feel like I deload before I need to and it hinders my progress because it sets me back.
But lets see

So yeah, 8 weeks ago. I took it really easy over Christmas and deloaded for like, 2 weeks or more, lol, with a random maintenance workout in between here and there. I was planning on getting to about 10 weeks and then deloading, but we'll see. I was going to re-assess after TOM gets here

I had a really good leg day yesterday! I ate a little extra and it helped for sure! Had some hip/glute cramping on the go and it sort of got in the way a bit but it's my own fault for not drinking enough water or stretching. I'm noticing a lot of changes in my body though. I'm shocked that at 130 I can still see my hip muscles/obliques. I can't pinch my hips. I used to be able to grab a handful of chub there at this weight. My upper glutes are hard and my legs are changing shape. It's awesome. Even my abs are getting stronger and more prominent. I am going to look awesome this summer lol!!!

Looking good in here Gobs, just cause you've only been lifting 3 days I know you feel weird reloading but looking at all that extra activity it sure looks like a great idea.
All those hikes are helping by the sounds of things. Hope all is well in your world."That's not sweat that's your fat cells crying" anonymous

Hi Hammie!!!!
I ate lots of protein and played video games lol! It was awesome!
It's not that I've only been lifting three days a week as such, it was more because there were sometimes 3-4 days off in between that felt like enough of a break I didn't explain myself very well, lol!!
But yeah, a break is needed. I felt like I was getting a cold for weeks. I need to rest and make it go stay away!
****
Had a restful weekend of music videos, video games, anime/Vikings, cleaning the house, etc. It was good and also productive This week will consist of a few walks here and there, some stretching, foam rolling, and vegging Happy Monday!Team Cookies Give You Superpowers

Well, it's Thursday but I'm thinking of starting Westside. I've been creeping on Bubz for a while now and I really like the look of her routine. I know it's a bit modified but I found an awesome template and I'm in the process of creating my routine. The only thing stopping me before was deadlifting seemed to be a huge part of it but rack pulls are also a pull I could use so thinking of doing them and trying out a few different depths. I'm thinking of lifting Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri so I'll start on Monday. For now I'm going to keep reading and planning and such. I might go to the gym on the weekend and just play around with a few things (figure out starting weights, try out rack pulls again, etc.) but no actual workout until Monday.
This routine rotates exercises fairly frequently so you have to be a bit vigilant about it! I'm gong to have to set calendar reminders for myself periodically, lol! Anyway, I'm off! Happy Thursday!
Arg it's so confusing! Just percentages and bands and chains and waves and cycles and arg! lol! Found a simple template and was like oh this looks easy. Looked at the powerlifting one and oh my goodness. I think I will go back to the basic oneLast edited by gobbles23; 03-05-2015 at 06:13 AM.

I'm interested to see what this new routine looks like. I got a solid 8 weeks before I'm allowed to start using my legs in the gym again I'm gonna have legit chicken legs *cries*BluePrint Believer!

No I didn't I changed it just this one time!!! I just felt like having a random 8x8 day, that's all, lol....!!!All the same exercises and pretty much the same idea, just a different way of progressing for my main lifts which will be bench press and box squats It's basically looking like an upper/lower split. Two Maximum effort days and two Dynamic effort days.
I like this one because leg days are all about the posterior chain movements which I need. Lots of g/h raises and rack-pulls and back extensions and core work.
So speed squats and bench on dynamic days and max effort squat and bench on max effort days. Plus the regular accessories I always do in the same rep ranges. The last time I played with speed sets I was able to hit PR's no problem. I don't see an issue with changing programs as long as you keep most variables the same. I'm certainly not all over the place with my training and keep most things consistent
So main lifts look like 10 sets of 3 on DE days and 3 sets of 1-3 reps on ME days. There are some heavier lifts on the ME days as well. So really it's just a more strategic way of doing what I was already doing. Sort of
Awww, muscle memory will kick in once you start training them again and your legs will be back to beefcake legs in no timeTeam Cookies Give You Superpowers

You're back!!! HI!!!!! I've been very well thanks!!! Where was I when you left? Was I still in Ontario? I think I was...Since then I:
* Moved home
* Got job
* Acquired a basement apartment
* Gained access to sweet gym next door that friend owns
* Still always hiking, walking, skiing, fishing, etc.
That's about it! I hurt my back last year (doctor thinks it was muscular...I think you were here for that though) so I laid off a lot of exercises and started them up again recently and I'm trying to get them back up to where they were and beyond.
Strength wise I'm in the same place as when you left except I can't box squat as much, but I only started doing those recently so they'll get right up there again I'm sure. Although I can DB OH Press the 40's now and curl them as well so that's cool A little concerned about my back since it's been feeling funky lately but hoping to start Westside and see if I can handle it. If not I'll go back to my regular split but we'll see.
How have you been?Last edited by gobbles23; 03-06-2015 at 04:00 AM.

Hi, Rapunzel. It's good to see you lifting religiously (and using smileys too) as usual. Big changes, I see. Your location is still the same as before. You're in the same city then? I think I remember seeing pictures of your new apartment (I liked the apartment).
Overhead pressing the 40's is impressive. Curling them is super impressive. At least for a turkey. Listen to your body and don't try to do something you're not ready for. I know you already know this, but I think it needs to be said.
I've been good, my dear. I've gotten into graphic designing and I love it. It's going to be my career now. I haven't been lifting at all and my home gym has gathered a lot of dust. I shall clean it tomorrow morning and then reopen my journal. Will link you up when it's ready.

I missed your logical thinking
Graphic design sounds awesome! That'd be great to get into these days. It's in pretty high demand I think you'd do well!
Definitely give me the link to it! I'd love to follow along
Thanks Hammie! It's nice to know that I can do something that I could never do before. Slowly I am getting stronger I wish it would happen quicker though. Grr!Team Cookies Give You Superpowers

First workout after 10 days of rest! I am ready! I'm still not quite sure what I'm going to do but I'll figure it out as the day goes on. It's my annual performance review here at work today in like, an hour, lol. First one of the year. My tummy is in knots so I can't really think right now. Happy Monday!

Yes, exactly! lol! Mine went well but I haven't been here a year yet and all raises happen yearly. Not that it matters much because this place doesn't give very generous increases. I'm hoping I'll get paid more if I get the Paralegal position I applied for.....But it's doubtful

Started off the week with legs! Ouch. Very painful. Haha! I was feeling DOMS set in during the workout My whole body hurts right now! My entire back and lower body is aching. So are my shoulders and traps from holding the DB's. Ahh....!
I won't be doing Westside. My lower back muscles are feeling weird again and box squats made it really bad. I felt really loose/weak on the first rep with 185 and then I said 'maybe I'm just not tight enough' so I tightened and went for the second and my back sort of crumpled I guess lower back muscles really do need a lot of time to heal. Rack pull's were a no go.
Whatever. Legs days will be Split squats for my heavy movement, and then G/H raises, pullthroughs, cable squats, and wall ball squats. I will start off with the 60's next week for 4x4-6 reps and keep increasing from there until I can get the 100's for 4x6
Today will be bench press and biceps. I might throw some speed bench in on whatever day ends up falling a few days before bench day. And as always I'll be focusing on my pulling movements (chins and pull-ups and inverted rows) for back and lots of rear delt work on two days during the week. Yup. Happy Tuesday! Workout post to come!Last edited by gobbles23; 03-10-2015 at 04:12 AM.

Sorry too hear the backs hurting again. Maybe try to get in to see a physical therapist or ART chiropractor to sew if it can be fix.
Have you heard back on any of the jobs you applied for?
Killer workouts in here, impressed with holding heavy ass dumbbells without assistance. If this were easy, everyone would walk around ripped.

Urg, it's just such a pain to go there. I have so many appointments already I need to take time off work for and then I need to find a way there because Stephen has the car all day every day and he can't take the time off work to get me there. Be alright if I could find some place that stayed open after 4:30. That's what I'll have to look for, I guess.
I heard back from the project Assistant position. They are hiring for a mat leave position in May and they told me their hiring process has been delayed for a few weeks (that was back in mid-Feb) I emailed her to follow up yesterday and she told me that they will be calling up the candidates who applied and were interviewed back then for face to face interviews in the next few weeks, so hopefully I'll be the only one left available!
The paralegal position is internal and I know I'll be interviewed for that. It's a higher paying position but I'm not sure if they'll be willing to pay me as much since I'll be contract still (I think) I was also told to apply for another internal position that's another legal assistant position (they want me here as a floater which I'm cool with but once my 1 year rolls around I'll be demanding higher pay or else) I'm going to be interviewed for both though and if I do well on those may have my choice in jobs. So if nothing else I'll be continuing to get experience until something else comes along as I'm getting concerned about my student loan and filing my taxes but I'm so damn underpaid here!
Sorry for the book!
Thanks I'm enjoying lifting lately I must sayTeam Cookies Give You Superpowers

Decided not to lift last night. I was so sore all over and my energy was really lacking so I didn't think there'd be much point. Tonight is Cost-co night so I'm thinking of doing a little home workout with DB's since we'll be getting home later than normal. Shoulders and Triceps! I will do speed DB bench, one-arm hammer grip presses, hg presses, diamond push-ups, standing military db presses, db upright rows, front raises, something for rear delts, etc. Should be good Then tomorrow will be back day. Chest then on Saturday because judging by the weather we won't be getting out much on the weekend.
Yup. I still can't walk, my legs are soooo sore. Like, it hurts to just walk on flat surfaces, lol!! Oh my! And to think I went easy on them! Happy Wednesday!Team Cookies Give You Superpowers

Looking good, still looks like you got a great workout in. Protect that back! Glad you were smart about it all.

Thanks DM I'd rather nix the squats and deads if it means staying active. I don't care about them enough to screw up my back, I like my back!!!
Parking here costs a fortune! It'd just be better after work anyway, I still have braces and have to go to appointments alll the time, plus everything else.I feel like I'm constantly asking for time off for appointments.
I did that too thoughTeam Cookies Give You Superpowers
