Honestly you should take the minimal dose you can that provides you with the necessary energy. Don't use it for the sake of fat loss alone, but when you need a kick so your energy levels during lifting or cardio are at their max.
You can use it throughout the day if necessary, but will warn you that you can quickly become dependent on it. I was up around 1 gram a day of caffeine between all my sources in order to survive the last few weeks of contest prep and was a bitch coming off.
