Even the finest institution cannot properly prepare a student if the student does not have the will to succeed.

High school seems like it would be harder to develop a good friend base because it's smaller. At college, there are so many people that it's hard not to make friends.

So I was feeling fine for the majority of the day, actually with plenty of energy prepared to train. However, when I got under the bar, I just felt so weak. I dropped the weight slightly since two weeks ago but squats still felt awful today. My form was good and all, but today's training really put me in a bad mood. Since squats went poorly (possibly due to deadlift DOMS), I decided to skip RDLs to give my legs some more recovery so I don't get another pitiful session like this in the near future. By the way, I have to go to an orientation next week at Boston U. so I hope I'll be able to train at their amazing gym!
Today was my last day of high school. I got my yearbook completely filled up with autographs and kind words from my friends. I'm going to miss them all dearly and I hope we keep in touch. I hold a myriad of great memories at this school; everything from cramming all-nighters to ace exams to cutting class playing games with friends. I also said farewell to all my great teachers who I appreciate for teaching me awesome subjects. All in all, it was a very sentimental day. Time flies brahs...

Thursday 6/6/13
School's over. It's still kicking in haha... I went out to play basketball with my friends and we played for almost two hours. Then we went out to eat and I had some steak. I came home tired as hell so I just relaxed, did some internship work, and watched basketball. I'm so glad the Spurs had that clutch win. They were losing for the vast majority of the game but managed to take the lead at the very end. I respect their team and Coach Popovich very much.
Made an epic triple grand kCal cheesecake, all of which was consumed because I was ravenous after basketball. The flavor combination of coconut, ginger/nutmeg/cloves/cinnamon, and Japanese sweet potato is great.
Benching tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well!

Yeah I did! Toasted coconut is the bomb. And the cheesecake includes coconut milk as well.

Friday 6/7/13
-Pretty good training session today. Almost hit a PR...
-My friend came over and we saw The Internship. What a great movie. It has joined my list of favorites. It could be because I'm really into Google and I'm quite tech savvy.
-Sorry for late and very brief updates. I'm kind of busy with internship work and learning how to drive.
Training
Barbell Bench Press
45 lb x 10 reps
70 lb x 6 reps
100 lb x 5 reps
135 lb x 4 reps
165 lb x 4 reps
155 lb x 6 reps
140 lb x 8 reps
Almost hit PR on first set. However, I need to work on balancing right and left sides and controlling the eccentric/concentric motions better. *Last 2 sets were speed/pause sets.
Barbell Incline Bench Press
125 lb x 8 reps
120 lb x 7 reps
Awesome inclines today. Almost got 8 on second set!
Dips - Chest Version
6 reps || weighted || 62.5 lb
7 reps || weighted || 57.5 lb
7 reps || weighted || 52.5 lb
Too unstable IMO
Speed/Pause Bench Press
125 lb x 3 reps
115 lb x 5 reps
Just for form purposes really...
Push-Ups
15 reps
15 reps
15 reps
I'm usually the bomb at push-ups, but these were much harder because I did an entire heavy chest lifting session before haha...

So lately I've been trying to score another internship, but this time at an IT company in the city; they seldom take high school graduates, but my resume may exceed their expectations. Today I submitted my application so it's time to play the waiting game. I really only want to intern for this summer because I have to head to Boston for college in the fall.
Training went pretty well. Deadlift form was not bad at all, but like usual some slight rounding on the last reps of sets. Six reps is the highest I go on deadlifts, so today was pretty high rep. As for Pendlay rows, I'm going to stay with this weight on rows or maybe even slightly decrease because I want to put more tension on my lower traps and inner back. Also, I tried barbell hip thrusts for the first time; these feel awesome and my glutes were on fire. I'm definitely implementing these more to strengthen my pelvic hip thrust when deadlifting.
I'm heading to Boston on Wednesday for orientation. I plan to use their really awesome three floor gym, though I'll only be lifting on one floor. My parents are coming with me and we are given dorms to stay at during orientation. Hopefully I meet some other cool students.
Training
Deadlifts
138 lb x 6
173 lb x 5
223 lb x 4
278 lb x 4
263 lb x 6
248 lb x 6
Chin-Ups
5 || weighted || 25 lb
4 || weighted || 20 lb
4 || weighted || 15 lb
Woohoo. Awesome chins. All in all, I should lock out back more and prevent arms from overpowering the movement.
Speed/Pause Deadlifts
228 lb x 3
228 lb x 3 reps
228 lb x 3
Pendlay Rows
158 lb x 5 reps
158 lb x 5
158 lb x 4
**** I forgot to warm up... Lmao will stay with this weight to get more strict of a movement.
Hanging Bent Leg Raise
10 reps (+5 pts)
Questionable form lol. I usually play around with abs.
Barbell Hip Thrusts
138 lb x 10
228 lb x 10
Oohooohoo I feel scandalous doing these (lol). And they make my glutes feel like steel. I also figured they'd make my deadlift pelvic thrust superior.
Bold: weight PR

Brown Sugar Chili Spiced Japanese Sweet Potato, Apple, and Candied Bacon Hash
topped w/ Fried Eggs and Peanut Butter
Copious sweet potatoes and Gala apples spiced with chili powder/brown sugar, then fried in coconut oil. Combined with candied bacon to complete the hash. Complemented with eggs and PB for kicks. Outstanding savory sweet meal.

Heading to Boston tomorrow for school orientation with my parents. I'm going to be there until Friday staying at the dorms. It should be interesting and I hope I meet some cool people. I'm planning on getting my legs training in tomorrow at Boston University's gym. It might be tough to fit in though because there are a lot of orientation activities for parents and students throughout the day. We'll see what happens. Also, BU has amazing food and we get it complimentary .
I will be leaving at 6AM tomorrow. I need some sleep.

Wednesday 6/12/13 - Friday 6/15/13
Finally back from an exhausting yet tremendously fun college orientation in Boston. I met several new friends and faculty with whom I had some awesome interactions. Got lots of digits, Facebooks, Twitters, etc. of lots of cool students. Surprisingly, a lot of cute girls asked for my number; I'm not sure why, I was just being friendly lol. Good start to college I guess! Also, the Dean of Students is a really chill guy. He epitomizes old school and new school together. I even follow him on Twitter now haha. Lastly, I registered for my classes and finally received my official schedule for the fall '13 semester.
The student orientation schedule was very tight so I didn't have the freedom to complete full lifting sessions. I mainly did the big compound lifts with a few accessories. I didn't really go to failure either because it was a new gym and I wasn't in my zone because I was so distracted by college things! Nonetheless, form was spot on throughout. The 3 story gym is spectacular with plenty of squat racks/benches. Unfortunately, they had weight belts, but they were broken so I couldn't hang any weights on dips/chin ups .
Yesterday I saw some really bad college bros (juniors/seniors?) spotting each other after failure, curling up the weights on bench press. They became ecstatic after "pushing" out 5+ extra curled up spotted reps.
With regards to nutrition, I was just eating whatever with my newly made friends. I think I had enough protein, but I definitely didn't get adequate calories. In addition to the calorie deficit, we walked miles everyday back and forth on campus so it makes sense that I lost almost 2 pounds. The food at the college and in the city of Boston was exquisite though. I ate great dishes at Harvard Square and some really nice outdoor restaurant on Newbury St., Boston.
PS-- Harvard smells like weed all over the place
PPS-- Lots of Ben and Jerry's scoop shops in Boston. I don't always have to go to Manhattan for one now haha.
Wednesday Training

Friday Training

Some eats @ Cafeteria Boston
(not a cafeteria, the restaurant is called Cafeteria Boston lol)
Cheesy Tomato Soup w/ Croutons
Very flavorful and is actually famous at this restaurant

Hanger Steak, Fries, Raspberry Butter
Raspberry butter is unusual yet very tasty

Thanks. Boston is beautiful and pleasant.
Omg... the rain was the worst part during my stay. We had to wear BU rain ponchos while walking outside back and forth on the campus. It was very annoying.
Yeah I will obviously consume more when in college to make up for that increased NEAT.

Training was pretty decent today. My form on deads was nice and I think I'll be able to increase the weight soon. Chin ups felt odd but I did a nice job at using my lower traps, something I tend to neglect when doing weighted chins. Pendlay rows needed to be stricter and I'm not satisfied with the form yet. Also, I kind of had to "rush" through my training because I needed to quickly get ready for the family Father's Day BBQ. So I will probably do the skipped abs work tomorrow.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Today I had a BBQ with my family and family-friends. I spent some quality time with my father; we played ping pong, swam in the pool, and ate like kings on a beautiful summer day. I think I get my huge appetite from my dad; we achieved meat mastery today . I almost beat him to a game of ping pong to 21 as I was leading 18-16, then he came back like a ninja with 5 straight points. -_- Oh well, it was fun. Later we just chilled and watched the Heat lose to the Spurs. That was enjoyable haha Danny Green is a beast.
