I'm an avid amateur photographer who has had one exhibition thus far. I love photography, and started a small business in hopes to one day recoup some of the cost of the gear.
That said, the above lens is $9,000 new. It would be, by far, the largest purchase I have made for photography.
But what I want to know is: What would you do with $9,000 today?

This isn't a new car that loses 20% of its value the second you drive it off the lot. A lens like this is professional grade and doesn't lose much value, even after years of use. "Cheated" is not the word.
I have the 105. And I use a D800. No 24-70 yet but I am mostly a landscape/wildlife guy and I do have the 14-24.All Hail the Ultimate Master, "I Know More Than The Generals Do", Donald Camacho Dr. Pepper X-Ray AR-15 Trump

If you can afford to drop 9k on a lens and it won't put you in debt I say go for it then. Mirin' Alaska views, I plan to visit someday down the road.
Strong this, I actually liquidated a lot of my lenses recently because I don't shoot as much as I used to. The time lined up right around the time when a lot of the lens factories were destroyed or damaged in Japan. I ended up making a strong profit because a lot of popular lenses jumped 30%+ in value.
