Today's Lubear wisdom:
If you are not sure what to say, keep your mouth shut. It'll make you seem wiser and you may avoid a lot of trouble.
That old chap really must have scared everyone on the train; no one went to help the young man. I guess that's what most people do. If someone has had an accident, I always see dozens of people helping the victims, but if someone is getting beaten up on the street, no one bothers. Why? The human race baffles me sometimes.

you think that is a wide grip? i actually brought the hands in a little from last Wave. thanks presses are starting to get up there into the big boy range now(took fukking long enough)
and i am your friend Lu
yeah i am impressed. loving the easy way you nail depth and maintain a pretty tight lower back. for me to get that depth without rounding i have to take it much slower and concentrate. and that is with much less weight! what do you think max squat is sitting at based on the feel of that 470x2 set? looks like you left one behind on that. You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

post it in here. i can watch it on my phone but no copy and paste ability
it nails chest so much better than a narrow grip for me. plus unlike when i was using heavy benchpress before i have not had anymore shoulder issues from benchpress with the wide grip. i think it has something to do with how much the shoulders have to rotate a lot more when the grip is closer together. Dave Tate covers it in his "So you think you can bench" vids.
try widening out a little more and see what you get. if you dont like it switch back. You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

I'll have to get a front shot next time, but I think my grip is pretty narrow compared to most people. A few months back when I was really having trouble progressing, I was constantly trying different grip widths. My setup was awful though. The more narrow grip just felt more natural at the time. After running a cycle of Smolov Jr, I feel like my setup is getting pretty solid, and I've progressed passed my old stalling point. I feel like I should be able to be bench more if I brought my grip out a bit, but since everything feels so good lately and I'm progress, now I'm too afraid to start tinkering with it again.

TC
Shove your hips back more during the decent. Bend your knees only after the bar clears them.
Drop the weight faster and don't try to control it. Also, either lift barefoot or wear Chucks.

Everyone has such a whiny attitude towards the dodecagonal plates. When you set it down and it rolls, stop and reset. It actually forces you to take the time to dead the weight and reset.
Also, once your deadlift weight is at a decent weight, it stops rolling around.-

I'm surprised chazzy hasn't weighed in. That was awful. Stop dicking around and pull the ****ing weight off the floor. Find a spot on the floor or wall in front of you, and stare at it through your entire set. Return the weight to the floor and let it sit there dead between each rep. Stop letting the bar ride down your legs on the negative - your negative should look like you are playing the vid of the pull in reverse at 1.5x speed.

haha well when I saw Josh & Lu both critique it, it didn't sound bad so I figured there was no point for me to watch it as well.
But... wow. That was just bad. I have to rewatch it to pick this thing apart. Chadster, it seemed like you coudln't decide if you wanted to do conventional deadlifts, romanian deadlifts and some form of hack squat but with the bar in front of you. That sh*t was awkward as hell to watch (and I'm sure to perform) and was pretty much atrocious.
First, stop trying to look up during the lift. Did someone suggest that? It seems retarded and actually seems like one of the biggest reasons your lift looked so bad. It seemed to be throwing everything else off entirely.
Second, you don't need to have your hips that low if it doesn't work for you. It isn't a squat. You don't have to treat it as such.
Third, everything should lock out at once. Knees, hips, shoulders. Your body should form a rigid line, slightly angled back and should snap in place at the end... together. Not in this disjointed weird motion you got going on.
Fourth, the eccentric is just a reverse of the concentric. Nothing more. Stop riding down your legs. Why does that always seem to be the thing to do by newbies to the deadlift? As Lu said, break at the hips, until the bar clears your knees, then bend at the knees to get the weight down the rest of the way. That should be the reverse of your concentric (extend your knees until the bar clears, then bring in the hips to lock it all out).
Fifth, Lock your knees out! They stay bent throughout which has the rest of your lockout weird. At least that is the only thing I can use to explain how you managed to fall/step back mid-rep.
Sixth, set the weight down every rep. To add to the discussion about dodecagonal plates, unless another company is making straight edged plates now a days, those are not Iron Grip plates (the typical dodecagonals). Iron grip only has two holes/handles in the plates, not three.-
