Why does lifting weights increase your appetite?

Just wondering. It's not because you need more calories. When I burn more calories from cardio I don't get that hungry. But my stomach turned into a black hole ever since lifting for the first time in a long time yesterday. Just wondering why that is? It can't be good for cutting on a calorie-controlled diet, I'll feel absolutely miserable if I would have to feel like this all the time. My stomach feels like it's sucking/eating itself, I'm that hungry. It's been like that ever since 2 hours after my workout completed like 18 hrs ago, couldn't fall asleep without a quick extra bite (which I counted towards todays calories). I ate 750 calories PWO as well (only ate 450 that day before workout).

I get more hungry after cardio haha.

Anyway, try eating a boiled potato or watermelon. Boiled potatos provide the highest satiety of any food.

Watermelon provides the second highest satiety per calorie (first is bean sprouts).

Apples also have a great satiety per calorie ratio.

Thanks, I still have a big piece of watermelon in the fridge so I'll have that for my next meal haha. Hopefully it'll help some.

This is just a theory, since I have no scientific basis behind this at all, but I'm guessing that lifting weights and adding muscle has increased your metabolism and thus caused your body to desire more calories to compensate for this and to keep it fueled.

Ah I see, maybe because I haven't lifted in a long time in combination with muscle memory?

I'd figure it would have more to do with replacing the carbohydrates your body has used for energy.

I'm not 100% sure on the science behind it as it was advice from a friend but it has worked for me. While lifting your muscle burn their glucose (which is pretty much sugar) since a clean diet doesn't always provide much sugar try having a handful of gummy bears or a small dark chocolate bar with your post workout meal. Supposedly your body will not store this as fat since it needs the sugar immediately. I've done this for the past few months with my lifting and it does help the cravings and I did not see any increase in my bf %.

Once again I don't have any scientific research to support this claim but it is what has helped me with the same problem.
