    Deadlifts in weightlifting shoes?

I ordered some Adidas adiPowers and I was just wondering what you all think about doing deads in a shoe designed like this. Obviously they have their benefits for squats and putting emphasis on the quads but how would they fair doing Deadlifts?

    Said shoe for the unaware

Pimp shoes, but I'd do deads in something flat, preferably no shoes at all.

What's the heel on those? I like deads with a small heel, but 0.75" is too much.

Really a raised heel would just elongate the ROM of the lift. As an oly lifter, they allow the lifter to pull from an upright position which is advantageous in achieving a strong and efficient second pull.

When you're just trying to deadlift the weight, with a rounded thoracic spine and higher hip position... there's really no point to a heel.

That said, try it out and see if it vibes with you. If not, proceed without.

I've experimented with my power perfects and it helped me get in a better starting position for conventional, but my lockout would be a bit inconsistent, so they lasted all of 1-2 workouts for me.

May work better for you, so who knows.

I think Mark Rippetoe says something about how the ROM isn't increased by that much. It wouldn't actually be the difference between the front and back of the shoe which is 3/4" but more like the middle and the front. And to him, that little 1/2" increase of ROM is worth giving up in order to activate more quads and be stronger at the lift. But I've never tried it so who knows.

I have done deads in my adipowers and without, and honestly didn't feel much of a difference, now clean style deads are a different beast.

just be aware that your shoes won't actually look like that, they didn't actually release those.

These are what you will be getting (still pimp, but not as pimp)

Personally I feel way off balance and less optimal biomechanically deading in heels. I know one or two guys who don't seem to mind though.
