No. For just regular grip when you do pullups. Most people just grab the bar with their fingers and start. Kinda like benchpress, beginners just start benching...the experienced guy sets up his body.
When you grab the bar, like for pullups, try to feel like the pinkie side of the hand isn't just grabbing with fingers, but slightly more with the palm. Its not alot more, but slightly more than the thumb side. Kinda experiment alittle.
It does help, esp on the bottom of the pullup. Try it. Just go from deadhang and hold it like normal, and then get the pinkie side palm more on top of the bar and try. You should feel like the shoulders are already 'tighter' when hanging cause they are slightly rotated.
I just added this pic. You can see the difference between 'normal' grip on left, and then what I'm talking about on the right.
PS..I added a Tip#2 to that other post about the motion of the pullup.Last edited by nykwan; 04-02-2013 at 11:10 AM.

Don't listen the them! I aint' 53!
I'll try sometime, but it'll be hard to get pics. I'll try to figure something out sometime.
Yeah, it really is...just slightly. Thumb side is more finger on top of bar, whereas pinkie side has more palm meat on the top of bar...just alittle bit. YOu should feel your elbows rotate inward slightly when you do it.My vids

Never tried those. But I have done that flag thing before.
But I've been adding some front levers lately to back day. The bottom of the pullup really works the muscles that help do that front lever. I didnt' really work on front levers, but found I could do it cause of the weighted pullups, and now do a few sets of 3 just to get better form on it cause it looks cool, and gets bert stares. My vids

Actually, I got an idea.
Do a set of those straight arm pressdowns.
But first do it with chest out, shoulders pulled back...kinda like on bench press.
Then try it with your body doing the opposite. Shoulders forward, hips forward, and your back pushed back like a turtle shell. So your body is kinda concave. This is hollowbody. I guarantee you will feel the lower lats alot more in this position vs the first position.
But thats what I mean when I do my heavy weighted sets. I end up hollowbody from bottom to maybe 2/3 of the way up, and then body switches to chest out at the top.
Sometimes I do low rep sets of very slow pullups. And I feel my body naturally do this switch in positions also. Try a negative that way. Start at the top with shoulders pulled back, chest out, and then lower yourself. And let your body switch when you lower it. It'll feel natural later. My vids
