It's been working for me. I do eat at a caloric deficit, but my lifts have gone up since I started.

I definitely need more sleep though and that may be unrelated.

Lol what? You are 16 years old, 6' and 225 lbs. Fasting shouldn't be in your vocabulary.

You don't have to wait. You just have to fast 16 hours and eat 8. Some people take BCAAs as a pre-workout and workout fasted. I just eat some nuts and drink some milk, and that pre-workout meal starts my 8 hour "feasting" period. I do this after work so I normally just eat dinner after I workout and go to sleep. I also drink coffee in the morning but from what I can tell it hasn't effected the diet because it's pretty low (below 100) on calories.

Also, I agree win arian. Unless you are trying to make a weight class you have no reason to be doing this.

I am not going to say that IF isn't a good idea, but I have heard some counters to it that suggest the fasting period is too long. Only way to find out is to try it yourself.

That will come through just getting stronger and eating sensible meals.

You're in the wrong section for your goals.

Sounds a lot like Carb Back Loading and part of it. Except possibly not fasting as long in CBL.

Not as technical and a longer fast. Kiefer's big disagreement on IF is basically over a couple of hours during the fasting period.

    Op,

The reason I see for those in this forum suggesting to toss this idea is because This approach takes away your body's focus from strength gains and allocates it towards weight management.

Take it from guys on this forum. You will have plenty of years to practice and master weight control later down the road. The gains you could make right now however, through focus on weight progression on the big five (squat, dead lift, bench, row, and military press) and eating like a horse, you will become as big and strong as a horse.

If strength is the goal, these guys know what they are talking about. Later down the road, maybe after a bit of college or after high school, you might get some useful info from the pansies at the nutrition forum. By then, I'm sure you'd know enough to scoff at half the things they bring up for debate.

    Cheers

Except usually someone who is skinny uses the excuse that their metabolism is "fast" as the reason why they can't gain weight. Really it is because they don't eat enough. So why would you compound that by starving yourself for 75% of a day and trying to be on a caloric surplus for the other 25%?

Kiefer has a three part (soon to be four) article on IF and its ups and downs. There are benefits to fasting, especially if trying to recomp/stay at the top end of a weight class without too much cutting/general health....but initially I missed the whole 16 thing....eat kid, eat!
