Well they could be doing box squats, which is a form of power-squatting. i dont see anything wrong with it if they incorporate it into a full ROM workout with full squats and such. but if they are doing it solely for the leg workout, then yea, i hope their achilles tendon would rip

From an Article by Mike Boyle:
" I love when someone tells me they squat to “parallel” and then I get to go to the gym and watch. I think, “My God, who taught your geometry class?” Parallel to what? I start to ask myself if there’s a line on the wall going downhill at a 45 degree angle. Are they parallel to that? "
Squat depth clarified:

What about the guys who bench to 90 degrees when they have perfectly healthy shoulders? These guys usually don't squat at all.

Makes my blood boil, too, db. Anyone that doesn't go really parallel or lower, probably has a hankering for a meat whistle

What if their spines broke instead? Would that be ok?

Actually, squatting down to a bench isn't going parrallel, but that doesn't mean it isn't effective. While it might not be AS effective, hitting the bench allows you to keep your back straighter, going back a bit more due to knowing you have that safety there. Also, if you stay on the bench for a second, you'll find it's MUCH harder to lift off of it, recruiting your hamstrings and glutes and even abdominals noticeably. I don't practice it, but I don't shun it either. I just don't know if it can be compared to ATG squats.

Naw.
I was thinking their balls could both explode, letting them roll around in pain while I drill proper squatting technique and form to them, making them listen due to a slight hope they'll survive, then promptly letting their heads explode so than can go give Satan their hard-won lessons on how to squat.

You're confusing bench squats (ghey) with box squats (good). The former is done by incompetent, ignorant retards. The latter is done by people who know what they're doing.

Um, please explain the difference in a box squat and a bench squat other than the object used, and then get to explaining how one form of exercise turns the lifter into an incompetent and ignorant retard and the other proves superior weight lifting knowledge. This doesn't mean I'm challenging your post, just that I'm exceedingly wary of it.

It's not necessarily the implement used, but the manner in which the exercise is performed. People that squat to a bench almost without fail use an awkward bar placement, go up on their toes, have wobbly knees, and think they're going to parallel on the bench when they're not. Those that box squat understand why they're doing it. They stay on their heels, push their knees out, use good form, and understand what depth they're going to.
It's possible that you might find the first type of lifter using a box or the second type of lifter using a bench, but it's not likely.

So in other words, you're just saying that people who bench squat tend to do it shi*ty and people who box squat know what they're doing, and other than that you don't have any support such as different muscle recruitments or anything logical at all except a little bit of what you've seen in your part of the world. Yeah, I totally buy that. Kind of like saying, "if you drive a motorcycle you're a heroin shooting psycho with no respect for speed law." If only such fallacies had any relation to reality at all.

But he does box squats to a bench. He doesn't just willy-nilly decide to do squats to a bench because it seems like a good idea or because he thinks it's cool.

Then people need to STFU when denying someone's post until they're ready to back it up. People debate on here to LEARN, not to get get told they're wrong without knowing how they're wrong, or to just go around saying, "I disagree with you but I won't tell you why."
